This visa gives the right to visit countries in the Schengen area. A visa can be single, double or multiple and allows a foreigner, respectively, one, two or an unlimited number of times, during the time specified in the visa, to transit or enter and plan to stay in the territory of the countries participating in the Schengen Agreement. The validity period of a visa can be from several days (usually issued according to the duration of the trip) to several years, however, the duration of the trip or the total number of days of stay in the territory of the Schengen countries should not exceed 90 days for each period of 180 days;

Visa for Russians

In 2021, Russians are forced to obtain a visa to visit the Italian Republic. This applies to both tourist trips and visits to a given state for other purposes.

In the case of Russian citizens, it is worth noting that there are several types of Italian visa:

  1. Transit (A and B).
  2. Schengen (C).
  3. National (long-term – D).

Transit

Transit visa type "A" is intended for transfer to a connecting flight. This permit does not provide for leaving the transit zone at the airport.

Transit permit type “B” is issued for a maximum of 5 days. With this permit you can go beyond the transit zone.

Many people are interested in what the price of a transit visa to the Italian Republic is and whether it is worth applying for it at all if a person does not intend to leave the airport.

A transit permit must be issued in any case if the foreign resident does not have a valid Schengen visa.

You will also have to pay for the opening even if the time interval between connecting flights at the airport is 1 hour and the person has not left the airport terminal.

The cost of a transit visa is 35 euros, regardless of its type. It can be opened at visa centers of the Italian Republic or directly at the consulate of this state.

Schengen

"Schengen" is intended for guest visits, short-term treatment and tourist trips to the territory of the Italian Republic. Duration from 1 to 90 days in six months.

The processing time for a visa to Italy ranges from 5 to 10 working days, depending on the place where the documents are submitted.

If the papers are submitted at one of the visa centers of the Italian Republic on the territory of the Russian Federation, then the processing time for an Italian visa will range from 8 to 10 days.

If you apply for a visa directly at the Italian consulate, the visa will be ready in 5–7 days. This difference in processing times depends primarily on the fact that all decisions regarding the issuance of permits are made directly at diplomatic missions located in Moscow.

The visa center has the right only to accept documents for a visa to Italy, then they are sent for consideration to the consular department (Yakimanskaya Embankment, building No. 10) or the embassy (Denezhny Lane, building No. 5). Due to the fact that the papers are sent to diplomatic missions, the processing time for an application for an Italian visa increases.

National

It is issued exclusively at the consular department or embassy. It cannot be processed at a visa office. Opening a long-term visa permit takes from 2 weeks to 3 months.

It is impossible to influence the timing of the issuance of this permit due to the fact that all papers are sent directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs located in Italy, where a decision is made regarding the issuance of such a permit.

A national visa allows you to stay in the Italian Republic from 91 days to 1 year. With a long-term Italian visa, it is prohibited to visit other countries of the European Union.

Urgent visa

If a person needs to quickly obtain a Schengen visa, then he has the right to use an urgent processing service called an “express visa.” This service means opening a visa permit in just 3 days.

But it is worth noting that in order to get an urgent visa you will need to pay double the consular fee, which is 70 EUR.

The package of documents for an urgent visa is no different from the package of papers for a Schengen visa. This service only affects the time period for obtaining a permit.

How long should you wait

If an Italian visa is issued through a travel agency, the processing time varies from 5 to 7 working days. But if the application was submitted during the peak tourist season, the waiting period may increase to 10 working days. When a person submits documents to a visa center, he will have to expect to receive a visa within 4 to 10 working days. Some more time is spent on sending the traveler’s package of documents.

What is the cost of registration

  • Schengen multiple visas
    valid for
    180 days
with the right to stay in the country (Schengen countries) for no more than
    90 days

    for up to 6 months
(the length of stay is determined depending on the tickets provided and hotel reservations. In the case of a double or multiple transit visa, the total period of stay during all entries is indicated)

Factors influencing the processing time for an Italian visa

The registration period is individual for each tourist. But there are factors that everyone needs to consider.

Seasonal factor

Many people are planning tourist trips for long holidays. This means that approximately 2 weeks before the New Year and in the last 2 weeks of April the number of visitors to visa centers increases. Operators are unable to cope, and the visa processing time is increasing. The same situation occurs in the summer months.

On national holidays, embassies also rest. Make sure to make an appointment to submit documents in advance.

Visa type

How long it will take to obtain a visa depends on its type. The choice depends on the purpose of your trip. There are 4 types:

Students studying in Italy receive a student visa.

  1. Transit. The simplest visa with which you can only stay at the airport. It is issued if you are planning a long layover at an Italian airport.
  2. Business. If the purpose of your trip is a business event, visiting an exhibition, meeting with a business partner, you should choose this type. The set of documents for a business visa must include an invitation from an Italian partner, information about the company you are going to, or the event you intend to attend.
  3. Student. It is received by students and students of European courses. An invitation from the host party is required. An important nuance: the educational institution must be officially accredited.
  4. Tourist. The most common and convenient type to receive. It is even issued for business or student trips. The number of days you can spend in Italy is 90 over six months.
  5. National. With this visa you can live and work in Italy for up to 5 years. Obtaining it will require more documents and time.

Document collection time

When calculating the time it takes to obtain a visa, take into account the time you need to collect documents. Some of them you will prepare yourself, and some you will have to request from the appropriate authorities.

It may take 3 days to obtain a certificate of employment. The same applies to receiving a bank account statement.

Difficulties may also arise with filling out the form if you are receiving Schengen for the first time. In addition, registration for filing an application is kept by date and time. You can contact the visa center 90 days before your date of entry into Italy, which means that you have enough time for all stages of the application.

To obtain a visa to Italy, you must fill out an application form.

Completeness and accuracy of submitted documents and information

Carefully check the information prepared for your visa application. Check it with the required list, and the questionnaire data with the personal documents that you used to fill it out. The papers will be checked immediately at the time of submission for formal compliance with the list. If an error is detected, the entire package will be returned to you for re-registration. The point is especially important if documents are submitted without the presence of the applicant.

The information will be checked a second time at the consulate. All information provided by you must be accurate and consistent.

If any point raises questions, the consulate will ask you for clarification and the process will be delayed. And if you are caught falsifying documents or lying, you will be denied a Schengen visa.
