For a single trip to India, it is enough to obtain a single-entry visa. If you plan to return to Hindustan more than once or visit neighboring countries along the way, it is better to immediately apply for a multiple-entry visa.

Goa and India: do Russian citizens need a visa?

Tourists from the Russian Federation who are flying to Southeast Asia for the first time or have not visited the colorful peninsula for a long time are wondering: do Russians need to obtain a visa to India?

According to official data from the Embassy, in 2021, a visa to India for Russians is a mandatory condition for a visit for any purpose and for any period.

Another question is that the procedure for obtaining for Russian citizens is simplified as much as possible:

  • you can obtain electronic visas to India without visiting the Consulate;
  • you should provide a minimum set of documents, much easier than for Schengen;
  • The classification of visas by purpose, duration and number of entries has been simplified.

Russians can choose any type that suits the conditions of their trip.

Visa to Goa

Having found out whether a visa is needed for India, the next question is Goa. This is the most popular Indian resort, where thousands of tourists come every year.

Since the state of Goa is part of India, it is also subject to an Indian visa. Those tourists who are considering Goa for visiting must obtain a visa on time.

By the way! Dabolim Airport has an electronic visa confirmation system, so travelers can apply for an entry permit online!

How to get a visa to India yourself

Via Visa Application Center

The Indians outsourced the reception of documents to BLS International. Its Indian visa centers are located in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Pre-registration is required for each applicant to visit them. At the appointed time, the BLS VC will accept the visa application and a package of accompanying documents.

BLS CCs provide additional services:

  • photo booth;
  • photocopy;
  • filling out the form in English;
  • courier delivery of international passports.

Payment of fees at the CC is accepted in cash.

Via the consulate

If you decide to get a visa through the Indian diplomatic mission, you first need to register. Depending on the place of registration/work, you need to choose the embassy in Moscow or one of the consulates general (St. Petersburg, Vladivostok). After this, the system automatically generates an application form, calculates the cost of the visa, and offers to book a time to visit the diplomatic mission.

The completed form is printed, signed, a photo is attached and, along with supporting documents, submitted to the Indian visa officer at the specified time. The application is reviewed for several days, after which you can pick up your passport with a visa or (less often) with a refusal to provide it.

Online

Electronic entry permit (ETA visa) can be obtained for tourism, visiting friends, short-term treatment. You need to apply for it at least 4 days, maximum 120 days before your trip.

The E-visa for Russians is valid for 30 days after entry through one of 25 airports (Delhi, Goa, Mumbai, etc.) or 5 seaports (Cochin, Mangalore, Goa, Mumbai, Chennai). It can only be used 2 times a year.

To obtain an E-visa, you must go to the official website of the program indianvisaonline.gov.in:

  • fill out the online form, upload scans of documents (necessarily in English);
  • pay by bank card;
  • receive a visa by e-mail;
  • print and provide upon arrival in India along with a paid return ticket and sufficient funds.

Extension of electronic entry permit is not provided. The E-visa does not allow you to visit special protected areas, areas/villages of India with restricted entry. The e-visa can be replaced with an entry “X” visa after marriage to an Indian citizen or with a medical visa if the tourist falls ill during the trip and cannot be transported.

Advantages of doing business in India

The Indian Republic is a large Asian state. Today, the pharmaceutical industry and the production of various goods, including clothing, shoes and household appliances, are actively developing in the country. Russia and India have long established export-import relations. But the main advantage of starting your own business in India is cheap labor.

Jobs in India

The second significant advantage of doing business in India is reduced tax rates. But this applies exclusively to small businesses.

Small businesses in India include enterprises and companies whose fixed capital does not exceed 667,000 USD. The tax rate on profits of legal entities is 30% for local enterprises and 40% for foreign ones. Income tax is 30%. But India has its own peculiarity. Wages up to 200 USD are not subject to taxes, and in the country the average salary is 100 USD, so many employers save on taxes.

Today in the Indian Republic the most relevant areas for doing business are:

  1. IT – sphere. According to the law, a foreign resident who opens an IT technology company does not pay tax contributions for the first 10 years.
  2. Garbage disposal. There is a lot of waste in the state, but there are practically no processing plants and enterprises.
  3. Tourism. The relevance of the tourism sector directly depends on the region of India. The tourism industry is most in demand in Mumbai and other big cities in India, as well as in resorts like Goa.
  4. Catering. India is a poor country, so it is not elite restaurants that are in great demand, but fast food cafes with low prices.
  5. Fabric production. Indian fabrics are exported to many countries around the world. The fabric is in extraordinary demand and has a high price in European markets.

According to ongoing research, to open a small business you will need around 200,000 RUB.

Directly for the company registration itself, no more than 500 USD will be required. The rest of the funds are spent on renting premises or land, staff salaries and business development. The average salary in India is approximately 100 USD.

In order to open your own business in the Indian Republic, you need to go through a number of procedures:

  1. Obtaining an identification number for the director of the enterprise.
  2. Obtaining a digital signature certificate.
  3. Submitting an application to the Companies Registration Office.
  4. Submission of a business plan and its approval by the bureau staff.
  5. Registration of the company name.
  6. Registration and issuance of certificates.
  7. Opening a foreign currency account.
  8. Depositing into the authorized capital account.
  9. Launch of the enterprise.

If a person decides to open a business in the tourism sector, then it is better for him to immediately go to Goa, a resort state in India that is incredibly popular among Europeans.

Market in Goa

Business in Goa brings considerable income. In this state, you can only make money from tourists, so it is better to open bungalows, fast food cafes, beach pubs, mini-hotels or private kindergartens.

The kindergartens deserve special attention. Goa is considered a family resort, so many vacationers come with children. But not all parents have the desire and opportunity to spend the whole day with their children, so tourists often resort to the services of a private nanny for a few hours. Today in Goa there are many kindergartens where children spend 2-3 hours a day. Such a business brings in from 22 to 30 thousand dollars to its owners per season.

Application for a visa to India

The Indian visa application is completed online in English. The instructions for filling out the form offered on the BLS CC website are also in English.

When filling out the online form, it is important to correctly indicate the passport details (last name, first name, date of birth) in Latin letters. If there are minor errors in the form due to imperfect knowledge of English, when submitting an application, the diplomatic mission will offer to make an appointment with the corrected form, and the CC can make corrections for a small amount and accept the documents on the same day.

Types of visas

Visas to India can be of different types:

  • by validity period;
  • by length of stay;
  • by the number of entries;
  • by purpose of the visit;
  • according to the method of receiving - standard paper inserts in the passport or an electronic version with an entry permit, but tourists are primarily interested in the main, most popular categories.

Tourist

A tourist visa can be obtained for the purpose of tourism - this is recreation, sightseeing, a short-term casual visit to see family and friends.

Issued within 5 working days, can be ordered online.

Transit

Very often, the airports of Delhi and other large cities are used as a connecting point for two international flights, and it is unclear whether it is necessary to obtain a visa to India in this case?

Yes, you will need a transit visa. It gives you the right to stay in the country if the waiting time between connecting flights does not exceed 72 hours.

Important! A transit visa is valid for 15 days from the date of issue at the Consulate!

Issued within 5 working days, can be done online. It cannot be extended or changed to another category.

Multiple entry

Indians are very attentive to the number of crossings of state borders; this point is often specified separately when obtaining a visa.

For example, multi-year visas issued for 2-5 years or 5 years are almost always multiple entry, allowing countless entries and exits. Visas for up to a year can be single or double entry.

To obtain a multiple entry permit, you should notify the Consulate or CC in advance and obtain a separate permit, or resolve the issue on the spot. To do this, in India, as a tourist with a single-entry visa, you can contact migration officers (up to three times in total) and show tickets for further travel. They will issue a multiple entry permit. When you apply again, your previous trips will be checked.

Electronic visa

An electronic visa can be issued if the purpose of the trip is tourism, medicine, or business visits. For other travel purposes you will need to receive a paper version.

Important! In India, not all airports accept tourists with an e-visa; so far only in the 24 largest cities of the country, there are special counters in the arrival halls!

It is worth remembering that the maximum stay in India with an e-visa is 90 days, entry period is up to 30 days.

On a note! When applying for an e-visa, do not forget to indicate a valid postal address, the Consulate’s response will be sent to it!

Amber Residence, Agra, India

Refusal

It is extremely rare that a business visa to the Indian Republic is denied. But failures most often occur for the following reasons:

  1. The information written in the application form does not correspond to the data specified in other documents, in particular, in a foreign passport.
  2. The presence of a Pakistani stamp in the international passport. India and Pakistan are two warring countries, therefore, in order to prevent terrorist attacks and other provocations, many foreigners who have previously visited Pakistan are denied a visa.
  3. Violations of the migration regime in the past. If the applicant violated the permitted period of stay during a previous trip to India, he will not be able to obtain entry permission again.

What is the best thing to do in this case - whether to apply for a visa?

What is the best thing to do in this case - take tickets from other airlines or apply for an Indian visa? (This means in advance, of course) In this case, you need to calculate what is more convenient and profitable. Let's say you are flying Moscow-Delhi-Kathmandu - and for the Delhi-Kathmandu segment you have found very cheap promotional tickets from AirAsia. There are also expensive tickets for this segment from SpiceJet (I give this example because AirAsia has great sales, and the tickets actually turn out to be very cheap)

. We found tickets - and we think which is more profitable: a SpiceJet ticket (without a visa) or an AirAsia ticket plus a visa. If AirAsia plus a visa is more profitable, then look further: perhaps it’s worth taking a long connection (several days) so that you can also walk around India along the way. And if you take an electronic visa (which allows double entry), then you can walk around Delhi both on the way there and on the way back.

Indian Transit Visa

A transit visa to India is usually issued for a standard period of 14 days. An air ticket from India guarantees its receipt, the cost is identical to the tourist one.

Summary of Indian Visas

The set of documents and the visa fee varies somewhat depending on the region of receipt, but within reason... The presence of queues and all kinds of switchmen in assisting sharashkas is the same. The visa is issued with the beginning of validity on the day of its issue, not to be confused with the date of receipt

.
All basic information can always be found on the official websites of the Indian Embassy of the corresponding region where we are going to receive it
.
Using search engines, we find a regional resource and read documentary news
. As practice shows, there is no particular point in calling the consular department.

Visa application for children

For your child, you must prepare a set of documents, which includes:

  • Consent of one or both parents, executed by a notary. If both parents are traveling, this document is not needed.
  • A copy of the Russian passport, the parent remains in Russia. The copy is certified by a notary office. Pages with personal information and registration.
  • Personal passport and application form. If the child does not have his own passport, then the parent will enter information about the minor in his/her application form, and a stamp will also be placed in the parent’s passport. Information about the child must be in the parent’s document for foreign travel.

You can submit documents electronically if you are applying for a tourist visa or through the Embassy. The procedure is the same as when applying for a permit for an adult. Processing time is up to 14 working days. The cost of a visa to India for a child is the same as for an adult.

If a woman is raising a child on her own, then in order to obtain a visa for a minor, she must provide a birth certificate with a dash in the “father” column. Then there is no need to provide consent from the father. But you need to draw up an official letter at the notary’s office, in which it is stated that this woman (all her data is indicated) is the only person who is responsible for the life and health of the minor.

If a woman is divorced, then consent is mandatory. The certificate of termination of marriage must be included in the general package.

Indian visa received by real people in 2013–2021:

Kazakhstan - everything is fine in Astana and Alma Ata.

Nepal - it’s difficult to get a six-month visa on your own - we turn to intermediaries with money. It’s quite possible to spend two or three months on your own, standing in line. Kathmandu, quite recent commercial information from Nepal: through travel agencies a three-month visa will cost eighty bucks, wait a week - people got it without problems

. A six-month visa costs 100 bucks, the terms are the same.

Sri Lanka - for two months, twice, repeated easily.

Bangladesh - for 8 (eight) days in Dhake 50 $ in taka equivalent, one-time for three months, repeated.

Malaysia is the best solution in the Southeast Asia region. Here it is quite possible to get a six-month, almost multi-visa (three-entry)

. In the fall of 2013, a six-month double (double entry) was held at the visa center. We wait ten days with an advance payment of 56 ringgit, and then we get a visa plus another 304 ringgit.

Thailand - it took two weeks to obtain an annual work visa; a six-month tourist visa is more expensive to obtain in Bangkok; in Chiang Mai it takes longer, but is cheaper. In July 2013, a double was obtained without any problems, in 5 working days and 3,000 baht, and they each had several old visas in their passports.

In January 2021, a six-month double-entry visa was obtained by Russian citizens in Cairo without any questions. In Amman, at the consulate everything is just as friendly; in 10 days an Indian visa is issued for non-residents of the country

.
As practice shows, in Arab countries, the work of consulates is organized very decently and there is no extortion from intermediary tourist structures of a commercial direction
.
I would especially like to mention Jordan
. Almost all embassies and consular departments are clustered in a cordial area of Amman, with clearly marked opening hours and virtually no queues. A slight Arab bustle was observed only at the Iraqi consulate, which, however, did not prevent us from receiving and filling out forms in half an hour and even handing them in.

Russia, oddly enough, turned out to be three times six months. Information about the opening of a visa center has appeared on the official website of the Indian Embassy in Moscow. This practice exists in some countries

.
In reality, this usually means an additional fee of around ten US dollars
.
But so far there is no actual actual practice of obtaining a visa through this center among my friends
.
Although there are rumors that there are no queues and everything is cultural for your money. For non-residents, the optimal scheme, proven over the years, is to contact reputable assistance organizations
. Their names, conditions and addresses are easy to find on the Internet; such coordinates will definitely not be published on this resource, for many reasons.

General information about the visa regime

Unfortunately, the visa regime in India is quite complex and confusing, the rules often change, so before traveling it is better to check with embassies and consulates or on our forum for the latest official information. At the same time, it is worth noting that visas to India can be issued for very long periods, up to several years, and multiple entries.

Citizens of Russia and other CIS countries are required to apply for a visa to India in advance, because Visa on arrival or visa-free stay are not possible. However, since November 2014, citizens of Russia, Estonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Latvia and Ukraine have been able to obtain a residence permit for tourism purposes via the Internet (Electronic Visa) without visiting the embassy, which in some way can be considered as a visa on arrival. In other cases, you will have to apply for a visa in advance.

A visa can be issued either through agencies or independently, but in any case this is not done at the consulate, but only through authorized visa service centers in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Travel restrictions in India

Russian citizens enjoy the right of free movement throughout the country, excluding areas closed to foreigners.

To visit such places (some areas of the states of Manipur and Sikkim, the union territories of Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, as well as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands), you must obtain a separate permit in advance from the Indian Embassy or apply for permission at the offices of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Delhi, Chinnai, Kolkata, Mumbai or at Foreigners Registration Offices.

To do this, you must present a valid passport and fill out a form. The immigration officer enters the applicant’s personal data into the register and certifies the application form with a stamp and signature. After this, the application form and passport should be taken to the magistrate, where a final decision will be made on issuing permission to visit the special area. Usually the entire procedure takes from 2 to 24 hours, in some cases - up to 5 days (depending on the mood of officials or the political situation in the region).

List of required documents

To obtain a visa to India, you must prepare a set of documents. Depending on the purpose of the trip and the type of visa to India being issued, the package of documents will differ. You can apply for a visa to India online or through the State Embassy in Russia.

You must have with you:

  • A foreign passport valid for six months or more from the date of departure from the country.
  • Photo of the established size.
  • A questionnaire filled out according to the established rules - in English, the data is written exactly as in official documents.

Depending on what goals a person pursues when traveling to the state, more papers will have to be added to the set of necessary documentation. Their exact list is determined after the purpose of the trip is clarified.

For tourists

You can submit documents for a tourist visa to India on the official website of the country's Embassy in Russia or by visiting the consular department yourself. If the documentation is submitted online, the papers are converted into digital format. If you are visiting in person, then a paper version is sufficient.

In addition to the list of required documentation, the documents for a visa to India must include:

  • Declaration in Form F – to be filled out only for obtaining a tourist visa to India.
  • Two color photographs measuring 3.5*4.5 cm.
  • Reservation for a hotel where the tourist and his family members will stay in the country. You can book several hotels - first stay a few days in one, then a few days in another. The main condition is that there is no break between them, so that the tourist can confirm his place of residence in the state for the period of his stay.
  • A copy of the Russian passport - you must provide a page with a photo and personal data, as well as a registration page. The copy must be certified by a Russian notary office.
  • If the purpose of the trip is a private visit, then you must receive an invitation from a local resident. An electronic form is sufficient.
  • If the purpose of the trip is tourism, then no more documents are needed.
  • If the trip will be carried out with children, then copies of birth certificates certified by a notary office are required. If a child is traveling without one of the parents or without both parents, then consent from the absent parent (both parents), certified by a notary office, is required.

You can obtain permission to enter India for a period of more than 30 days. If the duration of stay is more than one calendar quarter, you must obtain a certificate of absence of HIV infection.

Application forms for a visa to India must be filled out in 2 copies. They must be identical, the information must be indicated exactly as in official documents. Filling out takes place in English.

For businessmen

Do Russians need a visa to India if the purpose of the trip is not to relax on the beaches? If the purpose of the trip is to establish business connections, then this should be indicated in the application form. The decision to issue a visa to India is made after all the data has been verified. A business entry permit can be issued for:

  • Creating a new business in the state or developing an existing one.
  • Studying the requirements that local authorities impose on foreign businesses.
  • Holding meetings, conferences, seminars to support your existing business.
  • Organizing and implementing meetings with local partners and suppliers.
  • Organization and implementation of the training process for our own personnel to adapt to work in the state.

For those who are employed

How to get a visa to India for work? A highly qualified person or a specialist in a rare profession can obtain permission to enter the country. Getting a job as a laborer or seasonal work is quite difficult! There are enough such workers in the state!

For a work visa to India, you must enter into a contract with a local organization. An applicant for a position must meet certain criteria. This:

  • Education in the specialty is not lower than a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in practical work in a specialty and in a specific position.
  • Must have a unique, rare profession. The state will not issue an entry permit if there are not enough local specialists. Also, a person who does not have “narrow” knowledge and skills will not receive a visa.
  • To obtain a visa to India, the company must be registered in the state and pay taxes to the treasury.
  • A foreign worker will have to familiarize himself in advance with all the nuances of his future work activity. He will be required to pay taxes on the same basis as local residents and make other deductions.

Important! The Indian employer is obliged to provide the invited foreign specialist with a salary of at least 20 thousand US dollars every year.

To obtain entry permission for the purpose of employment in a local company, the following must be included in the set of documents for an India visa:

  • A work agreement signed by a foreigner and a local organization.
  • A written request for a job from an Indian employer. It contains all the information about the company, the number of employees (the exact number of local employees should be indicated), and the type of activity.
  • A certificate stating that the company is successfully operating on the day the foreign worker was invited, is not in bankruptcy and is not going to initiate the procedure. The certificate will be a guarantee that the foreigner will receive no less than the guaranteed amount of wages.
  • Documents confirming the presence of the necessary skills, abilities, knowledge, and practical experience.
  • A copy of your education diploma. The copy must be notarized in your home country. The Russian diploma will need to be further confirmed by passing additional tests.
  • Correctly completed application form.

The decision to issue a visa to India for a qualified specialist is made on an individual basis. The candidacy is considered carefully, the employer who invited is studied. It is necessary to prove that inviting a specialist from Russia will have a beneficial effect on the Indian economy.

For students

If a young man from Russia wants to receive an Indian education, he must submit documents for a visa to India. You can study only at accredited universities that do not provide budget places to foreign students. The first academic year must be paid immediately in a single payment; a certificate of transfer of funds to the account of the educational institution is attached to the set of documentation for a visa to India.

To obtain permission to enter states for the purpose of obtaining education, you must prepare:

  • Original letter confirming the fact of admission and enrollment in an Indian university. The letter must indicate the specialty in which the foreign student will study and the duration of study. Additionally, it is necessary to attach a license from the educational institution, which gives the right to conduct educational activities.
  • A certificate confirming that the applicant has fully paid for the first year of study.
  • Bank account statement. If a foreigner studies for less than one calendar year, then the account must have at least 1 thousand US dollars per month. If the time period for acquiring knowledge exceeds the specified period, then the account should have an amount of not 2 thousand units in American currency for each month of stay in the country.

Indian universities willingly accept students from other countries. This is an injection into the local economy (foreigners cannot study for free in government-funded places), and a chance to get a specialist for work.

For conference participants

If an important event is taking place in the country - a conference, seminar, training or other, and a Russian company wants to send its employees (one or more), it is necessary to obtain a permit. The employer must take care of this; he takes upon himself the organization of the departure and the preparation of the necessary documents. An invitation to participate from the Indian organizer must be attached to the general package.

India is the center of yoga culture. People come here to learn the basics, understand the world, create and study spiritual values. An “X” visa is provided for such tourists. It is issued to lovers of yoga, Indian culture, and dance to visit the country in order to study the local culture. Athletes, participants in various competitions, and others also receive such entry permission.

If necessary, the validity period of the permit can be extended. You should contact the Foreign Regional Registry and submit documents. The application for extension must indicate the reason.

For patients of medical institutions

In the capital of the country, Delhi, and the nearest suburbs, the level of medicine is quite high. Therefore, citizens of other countries strive to come here for treatment. But this requires lengthy negotiations, because Indians are reluctant to provide assistance to foreigners when their citizens cannot always receive qualified medical care.

If the negotiations are successful, the receiving party sends an invitation containing the following information:

  • Information about the medical institution - full name, full name of the head, profile specialization (if any).
  • A diagnosis that can be treated in this clinic.
  • Approximate duration of treatment.

Permission to legally stay in the state is issued for exactly the period necessary for the patient to accept treatment. If during medical procedures it becomes clear that it is necessary to continue to stay in the country and receive the same treatment, the visa will be extended at the initiative of the receiving party.

An entry permit is issued to the patient and the person who will accompany them. An invitation from an Indian medical institution must be included in the documentation package - only the original, a copy is not accepted. The invitation can be sent by email (this is much faster) or by regular mail (very long, no one does this for a long time). The main condition is that the print must be “live”.

For transit passengers

It is necessary to obtain such a non-entry permit if a tourist makes a forced stop in the state. The validity period of a transit visa to India is 15 days. The forced stop should not exceed 3 days.

To obtain this type of visa to India, you need to prepare a set of documents, which includes:

  • Foreign passport, validity period must be six months or more from the date of departure from the state.
  • Completed application form in 2 copies.
  • 2 color photographs measuring 3.5*4.5 cm.
  • A copy of the Russian passport - the first page with personal data and the page with registration.
  • A round-trip ticket to the country to which the tourist is traveling while making an emergency stop in India.

Important! The procedure for obtaining such permission for a forced stop in the state is quite confusing. Employees of embassies and consulates do not know the subtleties. Therefore, many tourists apply for a regular tourist electronic permit and leave the transit zone during a forced stop in the country.

If a visa is issued for a sea voyage with a call to the Indian state, then you need to present:

  • Sea tour, which indicates the route.
  • Visas to other countries.

If we are talking about a transit visa for a seaman, then you need to present:

  • A document that specifies the role of a seafarer on a given ship.
  • An application issued by an agent of one of the countries encountered along the ship's route to its final destination.
  • A certificate that confirms a sailor's rank and identity.
