The Italians' requirements are not very strict. So that you understand in advance what you will have to face, here is a short algorithm for obtaining an Italian visa:

  1. Sign up to submit documents to the visa center and fill out the application form
  2. Preparation of a package of documents: tickets, accommodation reservation, insurance, certificate from work and/or bank (or sponsorship letter), photograph and information letter (not always required)
  3. Visit to the CC: payment for services, submission of documents and fingerprints
  4. Repeated visit to the Visa Center a few days later to receive a completed visa (you don’t have to come to the visa center a second time if in step 3 you ordered courier delivery of a completed visa to your home or office)

Application requirements for 2021

The application form for a Schengen visa to Italy can be filled out in Italian, English or Russian using transliteration. For national - only in Italian . The first and last name must be written strictly as in the international passport, the maiden name - as in the birth certificate, but in Latin letters. Data such as addresses and abbreviations do not need to be translated. Just transliterate them.

In 2021, answering questions is allowed both by hand and on a computer. If you choose the first option, prepare a good ballpoint pen with dark blue ink. Write in capital letters. Legible and neat. Subsequently, the application form will be read by an automated device, and if the scanner does not recognize your handwriting, the consul will refuse to issue a visa. When filling on a computer, the recommended font is Arial, 10 pt.

Provide only reliable information. Remember that each fact must be confirmed by an appropriate document, and the consul will certainly verify them. And if necessary, he will call your employer or bank to clarify any nuances. And if no one answers the phone number you provided, then you can’t count on visa approval.

  32. The item must be filled out only in case of a business trip . In the appropriate fields you need to specify the name with contacts of the inviting company and its representative.
  33. An indication of who bears all travel expenses . This could be the applicant himself or the sponsor. In the first case, clarify the format of the funds used (cash, credit card, traveler's checks), the fact of prepaid transport (tickets) and accommodation (seats). If the expenses are borne by a sponsor, then clarify who it is, the type of funds, the fact that all expenses are paid, only housing or only transport.

Schengen application form: filling out the first page

  • First you need to enter your personal information. Please indicate your first and last name; the correct example is in your passport. If you changed your last name, list all the previous ones separated by a space in point number two. Write your date of birth with a hyphen, mark your gender and marital status with a cross.
  • Points 5, 6 and 7 of the questionnaire raise many questions. Here you should indicate the place, country of birth, as well as current and former citizenship. In the fifth column, enter the city or region, and in the sixth, the state that existed at the time of your birth. For example, the Russian Federation was part of the USSR until 1991; if you were born in the Soviet Union, write so. In the seventh field, indicate your current and previous citizenship; for those born in the USSR, these are RUSSIE and SUN.
  • The tenth paragraph of the application form for a visa to Italy must contain information about the parents of the minor applicant. Russians do not answer question 11, since identification numbers are not assigned in the Russian Federation. On 18 too: this item is filled out only by those applicants who live in Russia, but are citizens of other countries.
  • Questions 12 to 16 must contain the details of your international passport: type, number, dates of issue and expiration date, name of the authority, for example, GUVD 565.
  • In paragraph 17, write the addresses of your actual place of residence and email. And in the field on the right is the phone number. In column 19, indicate either your position or social status: unemployed, pensioner, schoolchild or student.

How long does it take to get a visa to Italy?

Italians are that unpredictable people who, for example, can give you a multiple visa valid for six months, even if you have never had a Schengen visa before. At the same time, for unknown reasons, an experienced traveler can obtain a visa for a single entry into Italy solely for the duration of the trip.

In short, with the Italians it’s a lottery. But, in most cases, they try to follow the established procedure, and each subsequent visa is issued for a slightly longer period than your previous Schengen visa. If before, for example, the Czechs allowed you entry for six months, with an 80% chance the Italians will get your next visa for a year.

Italy is a very beautiful country with a rich history. It is very popular among Russians, and many would like to obtain an Italian visa for a maximum period of 5 years. Unfortunately, statistics in recent years show that Russians receive a five-year visa in literally isolated cases. The maximum period for which a visa is actually issued is 3 years, provided that the passport contains at least three old Schengen cards. Most often, if they issue a long “cartoon,” it is for 2 years.

Completing the second and third pages

  • In paragraph 20, write the contact information of the employer or educational institution. If a visa is requested for a pensioner or a child, this column is skipped.
  • Questions 21-25 cover the nature and purpose of a Russian’s trip abroad. Twenty-nine and thirty are the dates of expected entry and exit.
  • If you have ever been fingerprinted for Schengen, put a cross in the Yes checkbox in paragraph 27 and write the date. Do the same in column 26 if your passport contains Schengen visas received within the last three years.
  • Question 28 is answered by Russians who request transit permission. This indicates the name of the authority that approved entry into the state of final destination, as well as the start and end dates of the document’s validity.
  • Paragraphs 31-33 are devoted to location and expenses. If you have a family member who is a citizen of an EU country, then fill out the section with information about the relative (questions 34 and 35) instead of this block. In column 36, indicate the place and date of the application.

Fill out the form

So, you are on the website of the Italian visa center, and in front of you on the monitor is an online application form.

  • First, you copy your last name from your passport.
  • Next, enter your maiden name, if necessary.
  • The name, time and place of birth, and citizenship are entered step by step (if it is Russian, then write RUSSIA).
  • If the form is filled out for a child under 18 years of age, information about his legal representative must be entered.
  • It is imperative to provide information about the tourist’s position, while the unemployed enter “Non employed”, retired persons - “Retired”.
  • Depending on the purpose of the traveler, “Turismo” or “Transito” is entered in the appropriate column.
  • Point 27 indicates the fact of submitting fingerprints. If it took place, you should indicate the date of the procedure; if not, simply mark “No”.
  • If you are planning an air tour, then in paragraph 29 you should enter the departure date, but if you are planning a bus trip, indicate directly the date of crossing the Italian border.
  • The questionnaire must indicate the intended place of stay, as well as information regarding the inviting person, address and telephone number of the apartment or hotel.
  • The Italian side pays special attention to the financial side of the trip, so you must provide all the information regarding the funds for the trip. In paragraph 33, the first section is filled out by those who pay for the departure themselves (indicating the payment method: cash, card, etc.). If a person under 18 years of age is traveling or a business trip is paid for by an organization, then the applicant checks the box next to “del promotore” and then enters the necessary information: persons under 18 years of age - passport details of parents going on a business trip - name and details of the sponsoring person.
  • You can create a favorable impression of yourself if you have relatives in the Schengen area. This is the subject of paragraphs 34 and 35.
  • An important aspect of the filling procedure is where to sign the application form for the Italy visa center. This column is number 37 in the form, and if it is drawn up for a person under 18 years of age, then the signature is affixed by the legal representative of the person leaving. The total number of required signatures is 3: one is a sign of recognition of the authenticity of the information provided, the other two are a confirmation of your agreement that if the request is rejected, you will not qualify for a refund of the consular fee, and an assurance that you are aware of the requirement to attach to the package health insurance policy documents.

To try yourself and eliminate mistakes, you can first download an application for an Italian visa on the website of the Italian visa center for a trial filling, in accordance with the samples provided, and only then proceed to filling out the final version.

The form has been printed: what next?

When you answer all the questions, save the finished sample, print it, paste in a photo that meets ICAO requirements, and sign in three places:

  • in paragraph 37;
  • in the line with information that consular fees are not refundable in case of refusal;
  • at the end of the fourth page.

If you checked multiple entry in paragraph 24, your Italian visa application form must contain one more signature: in the field on the third page, where you need to confirm your awareness that for the first stay and subsequent visits to the countries of the Schengen area, appropriate medical insurance is required.
