How to independently apply for a visa to Germany in Moscow through the Consulate

Before you go to the Consulate of the German Embassy in Moscow to apply for a visa yourself, you need to decide on the following points:

  • what is the purpose of the upcoming trip;
  • how long will your stay in the country last?
  • Do you have intentions to visit other countries and, if so, are they included in the Schengen area?

Depending on the above, you will need to apply for one of three types of visas:

German Schengen type C It is considered the most practical option, because it allows a citizen of the Russian Federation not only to stay in Germany for 90 days, but also to cross the borders of countries included in the Schengen Agreement.
National visa Issued for long-term stay in Germany - for example, while studying, for permanent residence. A citizen of the Russian Federation with such a visa can stay on German soil for 180 days.
Visa by invitation This document is issued only if there is an official invitation from a German citizen (legal entity or individual).

Most often, such a visa is issued for potential employees of enterprises or, if necessary, to visit relatives permanently residing in the country.

After determining which specific visa will be issued, you need to follow several sequential steps.

Application form for a visa to Germany in Moscow

To obtain a visa to Germany, the consular department in Moscow accepts for consideration only those applications that are filled out online and have a personal barcode. You can find a similar document, fill it out and get the code using the link.

Most often, the refusal to issue an entry document is associated with incorrect filling out of the application form, so you need to know some of the features of this “event.”

Experts recommend paying attention to the following points:

  • Information is entered into the fields of the form only in German or Russian (and if a national visa is issued, then only in German). In any case, the applicant's surname, name and patronymic are entered in Latin letters, in strict accordance with the spelling in the passport. If any mistake is made, there is no need to make corrections, but rather re-print and fill out the form.

  • If you are planning a long trip across German soil, in the cell where you need to indicate the city of location, enter the one where the tourist will spend the longest period of time (you can include a plan of a visit or excursion in the package of documents).

  • It is better to determine the length of stay a little longer in comparison with real intentions, but then medical insurance, all invitation letters, and hotel reservations must correspond to these dates. Do not forget about the papers confirming the financial capabilities of the applicant - the amount of daily stay must cover the entire specified period of time.
  • It is important to exclude the presence of unfilled cells. If the answer is negative, the word “no” is entered (this applies to fields intended for certain categories of persons).
  • The right column remains free.
  • It is important that all the data presented in the documents and those included in the questionnaire strictly coincide. This requirement is especially important in relation to the country of birth and citizenship. If the applicant was born, for example, in one of the republics of the former Union, then the old name of the country that matches the birth certificate is indicated. The applicant's previous surnames are also indicated (if necessary).
  • In the box where you are asked to indicate your residential address, it is important to provide your actual place of residence, not your registration. Contact phone numbers and email addresses are also indicated (the address can be double-checked).
  • If in the column intended to answer the question of who bears all the expenses for the trip, the applicant indicates a sponsor, then information about this person is provided. In addition, items that are included in the traveler's expense items are indicated (for example, whether accommodation and meals are paid, or transportation costs, or all together).
  • If the traveler has already had a Schengen visa opened in the last three years, he must indicate the validity period of it.
  • If there are relatives in the territory of the European Union, the degree of relationship is indicated and passport information about these persons is provided.
  • The applicant's signature must not extend beyond the space provided. Minors do not sign the form; their parents or their legal representatives do this for them. The applicant must sign three times.

  • When entering the date of birth, the applicant must begin with the year of birth, then continue with the month and end with the day.
  • Any information about marital status is provided only upon official registration. This column is filled out even for minors (enter “single”/“not married” accordingly).
  • If you own several types of passports at once, the one with which you plan to enter Germany is entered into the application form. Passport data must be entered without spaces.
  • An important point in filling out the visa application is the social status of the applicant (student, student, unemployed, etc.). When entering data about the name and address of the educational institution or organization in which the applicant works, if the form was filled out in German, transliteration is used; if filled out in Russian, there is usually no difficulty.
  • When filling out the form, tourists must provide information about the hotel where they plan to stay; when applying for a guest or related visa, they indicate the place of intended residence with relatives or friends.

The questionnaire has separate cells that are filled out only by certain categories of citizens. For example, cell No. 18 should not be filled in by citizens of the Russian Federation at all, No. 28 should be filled in only by transit travelers, and No. 34 and No. 35 should be filled in by those who have relatives permanently residing in the EU.

A photograph is attached to the completed form; you do not need to paste it in yourself. It is important to double-check the submitted data several times, because Consulate employees check all the information.

Collection of documents

A package of documents is attached to the application form.

You will need:

  • 2 photographs 3.5x4.5 cm on a light background, without corners. One photo must be glued to the application form, the other must be attached with a paper clip to the passport;
  • a copy of all pages of the internal passport, as well as a copy of the page with information about previously issued foreign passports, even if it is blank;
  • a certificate from the place of employment indicating the position and income (it must indicate the profile of the enterprise);

Sample certificate of employment

  • a statement of the authenticity of the information provided with the client’s personal signature;
  • a copy of the property document (property);
  • bank statement and photocopy of credit card or travel checks;
  • a photocopy of the first page of the international passport with the applicant’s personal data;
  • hotel reservation and confirmation of hotel payment for the entire stay (original or fax; confirmations received via the Internet are not accepted);
  • In case of a private visit, you must provide the original and a copy of the invitation from a resident of Germany. The invitation is issued on official letterhead at the Office for Foreigners at the place of residence of the inviting person and contains a guarantee that all expenses for the applicant’s stay will be covered in accordance with § 66-68 of the Law on the Stay of Foreigners in the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as a certified signature of the inviter. The receiving party can be a German citizen or another person legally residing in Germany;
  • medical policy (original and copy), valid for the entire duration of the trip and in all Schengen countries;
  • photocopies of round-trip air or railway tickets;
  • in the case of a tourist trip - a detailed (by day) description of the route.

There is no guidance on how much you should have in your bank account to fund your trip. But it is believed that it should correspond to 45-60 euros for each day of stay in Germany. The amount of the medical policy must be at least 30 thousand euros.

Only after his approval is consent given to marry a citizen of the Russian Federation.

This stage takes 2-4 months.

Documents from the bride

As soon as the German groom sends the bride an invitation, she can receive a visa to Germany.

List of documents submitted to the Visa Center or Consular Section of the Embassy:

  • An invitation to the groom on a special form containing the address and travel dates. The groom's signature is certified by the special German office for foreigners.

  • A copy of the German passport or the groom's international passport.
  • A certificate stating that the groom is provided with housing and is financially independent.

Start Deutsch A1 certificate for a fiancee visa to Germany
All documents issued in Russian must be certified with an apostille. Absolutely all papers are translated into German.

The decision to issue such an entry document is made within 3 months. The potential bride is required to be called for an interview at the Embassy to confirm her knowledge of the German language.

The fiancé visa is issued for a period of 90 days - the German government considers this time to be sufficient for marriage. If a citizen of the Russian Federation does not meet the specified deadline, then she is recognized as a visa violator and may be denied entry into the country for a maximum of 10 years.
