How to get a job
According to the law, all foreign nationals working in the Russian Federation must be officially employed. But in fact, this rule is not always followed, since more than 50% of working Ukrainians work in Russia illegally.
As you know, to cross the Russian border, a Ukrainian does not need a visa, but only a foreign passport and a migration card. According to the rules, Ukrainians can stay in the country for 90 days in a six-month period. Thus, many Ukrainian citizens find work with a 3/3 month schedule, so as not to apply for a patent.
But this method of work is very dangerous, because if the Main Directorate for Migration Issues of the Ministry of Internal Affairs learns about the situation with illegal employment, then the illegal immigrant will face deportation from the territory of the Russian Federation. Therefore, it is better to get a job legally. But for official employment, a citizen of Ukraine will need a patent or temporary residence permit.
For citizens of Ukraine living in the southeastern regions of this country, one rule applies. If they have received refugee status, they have the right to work without a patent.
When hiring refugees from Ukraine, the employer is obliged to notify such services as:
- Pension Fund.
- Tax service.
- Employment center.
Employment algorithm for citizens of Ukraine:
- Border crossing.
- Filling out a migration form indicating the purpose of the trip “work” ().
- Registration at UVM.
- Obtaining health insurance.
- Passing a medical commission.
- Obtaining a certificate of knowledge of the Russian language.

- Obtaining a patent.
- Registration of the contract. If there is a patent, a citizen of Ukraine and the employer are required to conclude an employment contract, which specifies working conditions, the amount of the monthly salary and the responsibilities of the employee.
After concluding the agreement, a copy of it is sent to the Department of Foreign Affairs within the first 2 months from the date of its signing by both parties.
If a citizen of Ukraine is employed for the first time in Russia, the employer is obliged to transfer information about him to the Pension Fund.
After transferring the data, the Ukrainian will be given a special SNILS number for making tax payments.

Contributions to the Pension Fund when working with a residence permit
Working with a residence permit leads to the beginning of contributions to the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation. This is necessary so that you can subsequently receive social security. Foreigners in Moscow now easily enjoy all the privileges, so no one refuses them anymore.
Long gone are the days when it made sense to maintain one’s illegal status. In practice, this turns out to be a serious mistake on the part of a guest of the capital, who could easily ensure a comfortable stay in our country. It’s worth thinking about this once again, rather than suffering again and again due to the lack of good living conditions.
Registration of a patent
A patent is a permit to work and stay in the Russian Federation. Until April 2017, to obtain a patent, a citizen of Ukraine had to contact the regional representative office of the UVM at the place of future employment. But new rules were introduced in April, and they continue to apply in 2021.
Now the document must be prepared in the regional departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
To obtain a patent, Ukrainian citizens are sent a package of papers consisting of:
- Statement of the established form.
- Passport.
- Migration card. But it is worth remembering that in order to obtain a patent, work must be indicated on the card in the “purpose of trip” column. If “tourist or guest visit” is entered in this column, then documents for registration from a Ukrainian will not be accepted.
- Medical certificate. The certificate must be issued by a government medical institution. The document must contain information that the Ukrainian is not sick with HIV infection and other dangerous infectious diseases.
This is what a certificate of absence of HIV infection looks like
- Medical insurance.
- Document confirming your diploma.
- Registration. This document must be issued within the first three days from the moment of crossing the Russian border. To register, a Ukrainian must visit the GUVM office at the place of actual residence in the Russian Federation and provide the following documents:
- Ukrainian passport.
- Migration card.
- A document that confirms the ownership of the property of the owner of the home where registration of a citizen of Ukraine is planned.
- One photograph measuring 30 by 40 millimeters.
- Certificate of proficiency in Russian language, history and general knowledge of the Russian Federation.
Papers for registration of a patent are submitted within the first 30 days from the date the Ukrainian crosses the Russian border. If the documents were not submitted on time, the applicant will need to pay a fine in the amount of 10,000 to 15,000 rubles, depending on the city where the UVM is located.
Usually it takes no more than 10 days to register and obtain a patent for work.
We advise you to watch: how to apply for a patent for work
In 2021, every Ukrainian who works under a patent is required to submit fingerprints to the GUVM department.
The patent is valid for 12 months. It can be renewed every month. But for the extension it is necessary to pay a fixed advance payment for personal income tax. The rate in different regions of the Russian Federation differs, but the minimum payment amount cannot be less than 1,568 RUB.
In Moscow, Ukrainians are required to pay 4,000 RUB monthly for patent renewal.
If the renewal is not paid for, the patent is revoked. The document can be renewed several times.
Features of the new migration legislation
Despite the fact that in 2021 the rules of residence in Russia for Ukrainians have become somewhat stricter, the main preference has remained unchanged - crossing the border with an internal passport.
According to new migration laws, living in Russia without the appropriate permits is possible for no more than 3 months. And the popular “move out - move in” scheme no longer works. When crossing the border, a visitor fills out a migration card. When entering the country for the purpose of employment, you must write “work” in the appropriate column. During the 3 months during which you have the right to reside in Russia, you must find housing, register (issue a temporary residence permit) and obtain a work permit.
The validity period of a temporary residence permit ranges from one to three years. There is no provision for extension of the document. This procedure, as well as migration registration, must be handled by the receiving party - relatives, employer, owner of the rented home.
Annual quotas are established for temporary residence permits, which determine the number of foreigners who can be issued a permit in the Russian Federation, as well as directly in Moscow and the Moscow region. Those who have close relatives who are citizens of the Russian Federation can count on registration of temporary residence outside the established quotas.
Ukrainians usually begin their search for work with housing provision remotely. Many come to Moscow already having an offer from an employer who provides the employee with accommodation. Close family and friendly relationships help to find and implement employment with the provision of housing. There is no limit on the number of Ukrainians accepted for employment.
Violation of migration laws
It is worth remembering that Ukrainians bear administrative responsibility for violating the migration regime on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Pay attention to the video: rules for the stay of Ukrainian citizens in the Russian Federation
Violation is punishable by:
- A fine of up to RUB 7,000.
- Imposition of a ban on entry into the federation for 10 years.
Violations:
- Employment of Ukrainian citizens is illegal.
- Work in a region other than the one where the work permit was issued.
- A Ukrainian does not work in the specialty specified in the work permit.
- Expiration of the permitted period of stay on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Best job with a residence permit
Some foreigners are confident that good employment is possible only after changing their citizenship, but this is a mistake. Working with a residence permit remains an excellent alternative option, eliminating any difficulties. Because of this, you should take care of official papers for free stay in Moscow.
Nowadays, work with a residence permit is available to every migrant. But first he needs to seek help from the office of our company, where he will be provided with detailed legal advice. It will be a solution to any emerging migration issues that often worry visitors.

Undoubtedly, most of the vacancies are concentrated in large cities of the Russian Federation, such as Moscow and St. Petersburg. Finding a job in less developed towns will be a little more difficult.

Ukrainian citizens are not stopped even by the fact that they will have to work in the Far North under very harsh weather conditions.
By law, shift work cannot last longer than 3 months. The duration of the shift is also regulated by current legislation. According to the regulations, a shift cannot be longer than 12 hours.
Signing an employment contract is a prerequisite. When signing it, a Ukrainian should pay special attention to the clause on the calculation of wages.
In the north, wages can be calculated in three ways:
- Piece wages involve payment for the amount of work completed.
- An hourly wage means payment based on the number of hours worked.
- People in management positions and positions most often receive salaries.
According to the law, shift work in Russia for Ukrainians requires the mandatory provision of housing. If a citizen of Ukraine occupies a high position, he is accommodated in a special service apartment. If the employee’s position is not very high, then most likely he will be accommodated in a dormitory.
