Discovery of Italy: the embassy in the Russian Federation explained who and how can get a tourist visa

Russian tourists who, due to coronavirus restrictions, were unable to visit Italy, and whose visas had already expired, will be able to have them reinstated starting tomorrow. To this end, the Italian diplomatic mission in Russia is resuming the issuance of updated tourist visas as of May 3. Experts believe that this step is the first in preparation for the full opening of Italy for Russian tourists, which the ambassador of this country to the Russian Federation previously spoke about.

The resumption of visa issuance was announced on the website of the Consulate General of Italy at the embassy in Moscow (link). In particular, the diplomatic mission explains who and how Russian tourists can currently obtain a visa to Italy. In particular, the diplomatic mission writes that “from May 3, 2021, persons with Italian tourist visas (Schengen visa type C), the validity of which expired in the period from January 1, 2021 to the present, can apply for a new Italian tourist visa visas. The validity of newly issued visas will begin on or before June 01, 2021. Please note that due to current COVID safety restrictions, visa issuance may take up to 10 business days. According to paragraph 6 of Art. 14 of the EU Visa Code, the standard requirements regarding the required package of documents for submission may be partially changed (for example, regarding the submission of air tickets and/or hotel reservations), subject to the correct use of previously issued visas.”

At the same time, diplomats especially emphasize that at the moment, holders of Schengen tourist visas do not have the right to enter the territory of Italy or the countries participating in the Schengen agreement. “Visa holders must comply with current travel restrictions. The responsibility to check the current restrictions before traveling falls directly on the travelers themselves,” the Consulate General added.

Let us note that the resumption of the issuance of expired visas is the first step towards restoring Russian tourism to Italy. Italian Ambassador to Russia Pasquale Terracciano announced plans to open the border for Russian travelers 10 days ago: “I believe that, for sure, the lifting of restrictions on the entry of tourists will happen this summer. I can’t promise that it will be exactly on June 2, but undoubtedly, this summer the tourist flow will be resumed.” The fact is that earlier the head of the Italian Ministry of Tourism, Massimo Garavaglia, announced June 2 as the date for the restart of tourism: “we hope to restore international tourism at the beginning of summer, the approximate date is Republic Day, which is celebrated on June 2.” And the other day Turprom wrote that “Tourism is starting to open in Italy: people are standing in line.”

Let us add that Italy is one of the most popular European countries for Russian tourists. In 2021, the country received 804 thousand tourists from Russia, then the growth in tourist flow was + 20%, a correspondent of the TURPROM information group was told at the Moscow office of the Italian National Tourism Agency (ENIT).

You can find the nearest one and make an appointment on the website of the official authorized Italian visa center italy-vms.ru. Received applications are processed and transmitted to the Italian Consulate General, while compliance with the confidentiality policy is guaranteed.

The Consulate General warns against turning to intermediaries who promise to simplify and speed up the process of applying for a visa, as well as its processing. Otherwise, such actions will serve as grounds for visa refusal.
