How to plan and decide to move: pros and cons
In the modern world, residents freely integrate from one city to another, this also applies to Russians, who are increasingly changing their place of residence. If earlier many were afraid to take risks and were content with their region all their lives, today it is quite possible to start a new life. The development of technology, a market economy, and the removal of legal restrictions have led citizens to free swimming, and since Russia is a huge country, it will not be difficult to choose a place to your liking. Another question: What to focus on? How to decide to move? And how to plan it? It's smarter to answer frequently asked questions with pros and cons.
pros
The desire to move to another city arises immediately or is nurtured over years. Sometimes, after visiting a city, you realize that you would like to stay here forever, so to speak, you are hooked by the atmosphere. For other people, on the contrary, compelling circumstances arise to move from their hometown. The status of a family person also influences, which motivates change - taking into account personal needs, as well as the spouse and children. If you group numerous situations, you can determine the main criteria for moving. There are often advantages that come from them, let’s name the most common ones:
- Moving to a metropolis and a city with a population of over a million. Large Russian cities attract careerists most often; specialists strive to make a career; entrepreneurs want to realize their plans; there are also those who are looking for experience for self-development. And I must say that for the most purposeful, everything works out. Even responsible family men manage to fulfill their dream of settling down in prosperous regions of Russia, where there are many schools, preparatory courses, universities, large companies and well-developed infrastructure.
- The other side of megacities is moving to a village, out of town, to an eco-village, or a small town. If residents of small regions want to move to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnodar, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Omsk, Krasnoyarsk, Chelyabinsk, then from among their citizens there are those who leave them. The reasons are noise, smog, traffic on the roads, the cost of living, which over time has changed people's views on life in the city, especially pensioners. In their opinion, country life seems to be slowing down, and clean air and beautiful nature bring more color to everyday life.
- Climatic features. This point affects many Russians, especially from the northern regions, who want and have the opportunity to move, at least to Central Russia, in a better scenario to the south. A less joyful environment is when life in your hometown becomes depressing due to chronic diseases. Therefore, moving to another city can change the lives of people with allergies, hypertension, and people with respiratory diseases for the better.
Minuses
A common belief is that moving is a process that requires a stable psyche and a sufficient amount of energy. In fact, this is so, besides, psychologists say that moving from one city to another is regarded as a way out of the “comfort zone”. And not everyone goes through it successfully! What causes this condition? Let's call them these disadvantages:
- Change of conditions. This means that you should be much more flexible and versatile in matters of finding housing, work, moving around a new city, with new neighbors. In the old way, many things happen automatically or out of habit, which does not require energy expenditure.
- Property losses. Not everything can be transported; many things are sold, given away or thrown away. And, if the move happened suddenly, you end up selling everything for next to nothing – equipment, furniture, a car. Accordingly, it is necessary to purchase a replacement, and what remains to be transported for a decent fee.
- Acclimatization. A person is quite vulnerable to temperature changes, and, therefore, it is not known in advance how one will get accustomed to a region with a different climate zone. Doctors do not advise older people to move to other cities where the climate is very different from their usual one.
Where to move from Moscow?
I was born in Krasnoyarsk, a fairly large Siberian city.
Our family always wanted change: before I graduated from school, we managed to change 5-6 apartments (some of them were rented while the house was being completed). Closer to finishing school, it became clear that migration within one city was no longer enough, and then I began to look towards other large cities - I went to Novosibirsk (and I really liked it), St. Petersburg, Moscow. In general, Krasnoyarsk suited us in many ways - it is a fairly advanced city with a number of good schools and universities, cultural life, and beautiful nature. The main disadvantages: difficulties in finding a job (at least this was the case in the mid-2000s) and the distance from Moscow, where we had to travel several times—expensively and for a long time—while my sister and I were looking for university options.
Ultimately, we decided to study in Moscow.
I love Moscow. And not only for the notorious opportunities (and this is true - throughout all the university years you could easily find a decent part-time job, interesting internship options, etc.), but also for the beauty, for the rich cultural program, for how quickly changes are happening here .
But after several years of living in the capital, my heart again wanted change. After graduating from university, I was brought to the USA and Mexico for several months.
In the USA I settled in San Diego.
Briefly about the advantages of San Diego: a small city, near the ocean, everything is close, little traffic jams, beautiful nature, friendly neighborhood.
Cons: expensive, like everywhere else in California.
However, it was expensive, perhaps only for me, because... I had not yet found a job locally, but received a Russian salary while working remotely for a Moscow publishing house. Our American friends didn't complain.
I didn’t have any success with the job, and soon I moved to Mexico City, where an interesting offer just came from.
Kedosiki, which served me faithfully for 5 years.
And also briefly about the pros and cons of living in Mexico for those who are suddenly thinking about moving:
Pros: rich cultural life (very many museums, many new exhibitions, concerts, performances), ancient and exciting history (you can get to the city of Teotihuacan with its pyramids of the Sun and Moon), interesting architecture. In general, walking in Mexico is good :). ABOUT! And everything is relatively inexpensive. For example, I rented a house in the nearest suburb of Mexico City for 5,000 pesos per month, that is, approximately 18,000 rubles. House!
Another significant plus: in Mexico the work of teachers and professors is highly valued. On average, a good teacher receives a salary commensurate with the salary of a good programmer. I was just invited to teach Russian to Mexican students - one lesson was estimated at about 5,000 rubles. For comparison, my sister at the same time taught diplomats at our Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 700 rubles (+ a penny allowance for conducting exams and checking homework).
But there are no downsides either. Looking ahead, I will say that at some point they prevailed, and I fled back to Moscow.
So, the downsides: dirty air, traffic worse than in Moscow (no one follows traffic rules) and... just off-scale crime. I already told on Gossip that my friend and I were attacked with knives. Thank God, it was only the theft of phones and money. And I left for Russia after someone sneaked into my house. It happened like this: I was already going to bed on the second floor when I clearly heard footsteps in the hall on the first. I seemed to pass out from fear. In any case, I don’t remember what happened next. After some time, I woke up, went downstairs and found clear traces of the former presence. For example, on the kitchen table there was someone else’s mug, which certainly wasn’t there before. Well, a mug is, of course, not a machete, but it’s still alarming that someone could easily get into the house like that.
The next day I changed the locks, and a day later I bought tickets to Moscow.
And now for a year now I’ve been living in Moscow again, working, meeting with family and friends, and my soul is again eager to search for new experiences (and I’m tired of the metropolis, after all). For now, I am planning Kazan - a developing city with history and prospects.
Gossip Girls, tell us what cities you live/have lived in - and why you like them?
PS I remember that there was already a similar post about cities. But, firstly, I didn’t find it, and, secondly, a lot could have changed.
How much money do you need to move to a new place of residence?
You always need more money for moving than you initially plan to take with you. This fact is associated with unforeseen expenses. To avoid unnecessary stress, you should prepare and save enough funds before departure. These could be monthly deposit contributions for a profitable program or something else. According to financiers, a modern person is obliged to save money to create a “financial airbag.”
The term is widely used among financiers, pragmatists, and visionary people. A financial cushion helps you insure yourself in cases when you urgently need money. This method is also good before moving to another city. Of course, with the sale of real estate or luxury goods, you can get a good reward, but you have to agree that you will need the money to buy another apartment and decorate it.
To have something to travel with, you need to evaluate your budget, calculate how much money you spend per month. Research the cost of living in a new city, whether it's cheap or expensive. If the figure is higher than in your city, then increase the amount of monthly expenses by 1.5 times. Multiply this amount by 6 months and you get the amount for financial security for six months.
For example, ($1500*1.5) *6=$13,500, if in rubles, then 1,068,083 rubles. At the current rate, the amount per month is 178,013 rubles. This means it will be enough to live for six months. The amount may be higher or lower, but it is advisable not to reduce it much. Many Russians fit into 50,000 rubles. per month and from this calculation they save the amount for the first 3 months.
First steps in preparing to move
If the reconnaissance was successful, housing and work were found, it’s time to buy tickets and start moving. Actions begin with a list of first needs:
- First aid kit. In the absence of chronic ailments, it should include remedies for the head and stomach.
- Seasonally appropriate shoes and clothing.
- Hygienic products and cosmetics.
- Crockery and cutlery.
- Little things dear to the heart.
The rest of the things are packed and signed separately for convenience - bed linen, books. If there are no trusted acquaintances who could receive the luggage, it will have to be sent on demand.
The main thing is a roof over your head
The first step in a new city should be to find suitable housing. If there is no acceptable option among the available options, it is better to stay at a hotel for a few days to continue the search. When the housing issue has been resolved, you need to take care of food supplies so as not to be distracted by such trifles during the arrangement process.
You need to start looking for your own home after you have settled in a new place. In order not to be distracted from work by the complexities of long-distance exchanges, it is most logical to entrust such issues to a reputable real estate company with representative offices in different cities or established contacts.
Promising new job
After solving the housing issue, work comes in second place in importance. The combination of everyday life with business negotiations threatens to consume too many nerve cells. It is better to act in stages. Once you have a roof over your head, update your resume and check your email more often.
To become successful after moving to another city, self-sufficiency will be your lifeline. The body has hidden reserves and is able to activate them when help is nowhere to be found. Then new amazing abilities open up!
To get to know a new city, there is nothing better than attention during frequent walks and trips with a choice of different routes. Registration at a new place and replacement of those documents where permanent registration should be indicated - TIN, medical insurance and, if necessary, military registration - an obligatory part of the worries of moving.
Where to start moving to another city for permanent residence
You can leave with either money or even minimal capital. The last option is practiced by freelancers whose earnings do not depend on their place of residence. They can start life from scratch anywhere. With a family, on the contrary, you need to be prudent; you need to plan your actions long before moving. The best time to move is when organizational, legal and financial issues have been resolved.
Replacement and collection of documents
Only accountants enjoy hassle with documents, but for people of other professions this is a special task. But in order to move, you should consider points regarding valid documents. It is important to check the availability and timing of identification documents. These include: passport, international passport, driver’s license, SNILS, birth certificate, diplomas, pension certificate. Check whether documents for real estate, cars, contracts with utility services are in order. If you need to replace them, re-arrange them in advance, do not leave them until the last minute.
Paying off debts
It is important to pay off all debts, because it is better to move to a new place without them. Check all the records or make a record of all sorts of debts, and the sooner you pay them off, the better. Don't forget to check traffic police fines, tax debts, unpaid utility bills, and bank orders. Starting from scratch is the key to a successful move, so don't carry the burden with you.
Property For Sale
The sooner a person decides to move, the softer the conditions for this. Selling an apartment is the main point in the plan and where to start. Since the option of selling housing over a long period of time is not excluded. Sometimes you have to move and live in a rented apartment, spend money and wait for your buyer from another city. For many owners this is problematic!
Today it is difficult to control the situation in the real estate market, but if you involve a professional realtor, you can sell your home faster. According to statistics, they cope with the task for 3-7 months. Their experience plays into their hands and they use enough mechanisms to find a buyer. You will have to pay a lot of money for this. In Russia, the price of their services is determined:
- as a commission from the sale price, in the range of 2-6%;
- as a reward in the amount of 150 thousand rubles, if the cost of the apartment is up to 6 million rubles. – this is the tariff for large cities;
- for amounts over 6 million rubles. the realtor's fee will range from 200-350 thousand rubles;
- for small cities the price of real estate services is from 50 thousand to 100 thousand rubles.
For those who are in no hurry to move, there is another option that will save money. You can advertise through popular sites:
avito.ru, youla.ru, realty.mail.ru, www.cian.ru, www.domofond.ru.
It is possible to download their mobile application and monitor the situation online anywhere.
Preparing to move with step-by-step instructions
Preliminary monitoring
The seriousness of the goal implies the same investments. To begin with, information accumulation and moral resources will be required. The city of your dreams can look completely different. For ordinary people born in the outback, the ideal seems to be a metropolis. But residents of the capital want provincial silence. It doesn’t matter where exactly the selected city is located on the map or what its name is. It is more important to decide before changing your permanent residence:
- With the cost of housing, rental availability, the possibility of exchanging and purchasing real estate.
- Having a job in your specialty and a career prospect.
- With the development of entertainment and services.
- With weather conditions and environmental situation.
We must not forget about health. Especially for people with weather dependence. You can have a great time in the city on vacation, not knowing what’s going on there in the off-season. But this is easy to find out on the official city website by visiting local forums and chats. At the same time, look through job advertisements in the region, test the waters and prepare a resume. The best option would be to receive a job offer.
It is important to contact the employer in advance to discuss all conditions. There are companies that provide office housing. Or be willing to pay rent for an apartment for an out-of-town specialist.
Passive income or remote work with stable pay that does not depend on your place of residence can be a good support for the adaptation period.
The easiest way for those applying to universities is the city of dreams. Applicants can always clarify the nuances of admission and the availability of student dormitories by calling the admissions office. University websites also have all the information you need.
Help, at least informational, can be expected from acquaintances in the city - even casual ones. Having decided to change permanent residence, it is a good idea to take a test trip if the distance to the destination is not too great. This is necessary so that in a new place:
- Get an idea of prices in the city.
- Stock up on newspapers with advertisements and look through them at bus stops.
- Buy a local SIM card for ease of negotiations.
- Analyze your feelings again.
Don't burn all your bridges
There is no need to rush to say goodbye forever until the ground is on fire under your feet, the special services are not pursuing you and persistent fans are not waiting around the corner with bouquets. The right to choose implies the right to make mistakes. And the final decision, as the saying goes, is measured seven times. It makes more sense to lay down some straw:
- Limiting yourself to rented housing for the period of adaptation.
- Only after you’ve finally settled down with your job and got comfortable, do you move on to selling your own square meters.
- Make do with temporary registration and postpone questions about discharge at the old place.
- Do not tell others about the move, imagining your absence as a long guest visit or business trip.
When choosing new friends, you should also not talk about moving. It is better to rely on your capabilities and strengths. And a random passer-by will always show you the way.
Finding housing in a new city
Preparing to buy a new apartment in another city is very important. In a new place you need to look around, it’s worth coming on vacation to explore the local real estate market, do a survey, consult with specialists, and verify the information you studied on professional sites. Your success in business depends on your own preparedness and focus.
Areas, their infrastructure, housing options, prices, conditions, and so on - these nuances should be studied in as much detail as possible. Today, supply significantly exceeds demand, which entails a wealth of options. Those moving for permanent residence to another city can move to a new apartment in a new building, purchase time-tested housing on the secondary market, or draw up a contract with a developer for equity participation in construction.
Pricing policy offers prices: Cost of 1 sq. m in Lipetsk, Voronezh, Ryazan, Tver is 32,000-35,000 rubles, in the Moscow and Leningrad regions - from 60,000 rubles. for 1 sq. m, in Moscow and St. Petersburg from 99,000 rubles. for 1 sq. m.
You can consider purchase offers on the same sites where you place an advertisement for the sale of your apartment: youla.ru, www.avito.ru, realty.mail.ru, www.cian.ru, www.domofond.ru.
Finding a job in another city
It is possible to move at minimal cost if you find a job and immediately start working upon arrival. This will provide financial security, as well as help you get to know the indigenous people better and obtain additional information for a safe move. Making connections is one of the best ways to become successful in any business. According to the study, each new person subsequently gives you 5 more new acquaintances, and this in turn broadens your horizons and gives you the opportunity to realize your goals much faster. Therefore, your job search will affect your life more globally than you think.
In addition, modern methods provide assistance in finding a job quite progressively; all available information is available on the websites: hh.ru, rabota.ru, superjob.ru, www.zarplata.ru, freelance.ru. Enter the region where you plan to move and view available vacancies with salaries. The average salary in Russia is 48,000 rubles. per month.
Moving methods
You can drop everything and move to another city right now, just buy a one-way ticket. There are citizens who actually use the option and many do not regret it. There are other ways to move around Russia, these include:
- travel by train by purchasing a train ticket;
- go on the road in your own car;
- if it’s nearby, then use the intercity bus route.
Each method is chosen taking into account budget, health and comfort. If you fly by plane, it will also save time. For families with children, it is easier to travel by air. The average price of an air ticket in Russia is from 5,000-14,000 rubles.
Another issue is moving things - one of the most time-consuming processes when moving to another city. Delivery will be required, transport companies do it, and there is a chance to negotiate with someone. Self-employed drivers can help send small cargo, but only if they have verified contacts. Dispatch for long distances is carried out by train.
Problems of moving to Moscow
Let's say your preliminary trip was a success, or you neglected your first visit to the metropolis and were able to remotely find a job that suits you and is already expected to work for you, all that remains is to take the second serious step and find a place to live. If a single person moves, his wishes in terms of housing will most likely be quite modest. For some, a room in a hostel or in an apartment with the owners will be enough, while others will be able to immediately afford to rent a separate apartment. As a rule, people from small towns cannot afford separate housing and prefer to rent together or live in hostels for the first couple of years; this is both cheaper and more accessible.
Moving immediately with your family is generally a difficult procedure, especially if you have small children of preschool age. As a rule, either only one adult or both will be able to work, but someone will work remotely and their income will not be very large. By modest standards, renting a one-room apartment in a more or less livable condition on the outskirts can cost around 20-30 thousand + utility bills
. And this does not even take into account Internet and mobile communications services. Therefore, for the first time, until earnings become more serious, the family needs to prepare for very difficult conditions, especially if the family income does not exceed 50-60 thousand rubles per month.
Grocery prices, as a rule, in Moscow do not differ much from the regions. You will see even more reasonable prices for some products in the average food basket. But don’t forget that a family needs at least 10-15 thousand rubles a month for a more or less balanced diet, not to mention delicacies and special delights.
This means that from an income of 60 thousand there will be very little left, because approximately 30 thousand will be taken away by an apartment and 15 thousand by food.
In addition to these physiological needs, there is also a need for things, shoes, personal hygiene items, chemicals, cosmetics, and this is also a serious item in the family budget. And, of course, no one has canceled the disease, especially when moving to another region, you will immediately notice changes in the climate and cleanliness of the atmosphere. As you know, Moscow is choking on fumes, gases, vehicle emissions and even, in some areas, emissions from waste processing plants. And these are additional factors that affect the general condition and health of a person.
Step-by-step process of moving to another city
New emotions, acquaintances, and experiences await those moving ahead, and this is always interesting. You have to work hard before you can enjoy it. In order not to forget anything, use step-by-step instructions; with it, moving will not be so annoying.
Packing things
Moving to another city will provide a kind of cleanup; you will get rid of unnecessary junk that has been accumulating for many years and taking up a lot of space. It is with sorting things that you should start a new life. Do not regret what has long lost its value and usefulness.
Determine the things that are needed for the first time and have value even after moving. These are appliances, furniture, expensive dishes, pieces of art, and your favorite wardrobe. Personal items that are easy to change should not be taken with you. If you plan to buy new, sell it off. Take a photo and publish an ad on websites, social groups, and forums.
Organizing work, preparing things and writing a list of them will be a mandatory rule for a migrant. To pack things you will need materials and supplies:
- cardboard boxes, you can ask for them in grocery stores or purchase them at construction stores;
- packing tape, secures the cargo well;
- plastic bags with a fixative, it is convenient to put clothes in them to protect them from moisture and dust;
- bubble wrap and stretch film are convenient for dishes and equipment so that they do not get scratched or break;
- unnecessary newspapers, magazines;
- colored marker for signing boxes;
- scissors, stationery knife, tape.
Check out from the apartment
A real estate purchase and sale agreement is the basis for loss of ownership. Therefore, it is necessary to make an extract from the apartment or private house of all family members. The conditions are regulated by the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, paragraph 2, article 292.
The discharge procedure is allowed in different ways, you can choose one of them:
- If you bought an apartment in another city, then when registering there, the tenant is automatically removed from the old address. The application can be submitted through the State Services portal or contact the Main Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
- Unregister through the State Services website, send an application, go to the Main Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where they will make a mark in your passport.
- Directly submit an application to the Main Department of Migration Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
- It is allowed to leave a power of attorney for an individual who will deregister if you have already moved.
The main documents for checkout from an apartment are: passport, birth certificate, marriage certificate. The minimum processing time is one working week, sometimes the process takes up to two weeks. You don’t need to pay anything, the government service is free.
What to take with you on the road
According to the advice of experienced migrants, you can identify the main goods that you need to take with you on the road. With them, moving will be more comfortable and safer. These include:
- warm clothes, quality shoes, comfortable bag;
- hygiene products, cosmetics, wet wipes;
- medicines for: colds, allergies, headaches, high blood pressure, gastrointestinal inflammation, disinfectants, medical masks;
- water, tea bags, instant foods, sandwiches and other snacks;
- mobile phones, charger, power bank, headphones, earplugs.
What to do upon arrival
For temporary residence, rent an apartment if you haven’t managed to buy a new one. When the cargo arrives, check it with the attached one and with your list of things so as not to forget anything and check with the driver. Try to pack your items as clean as possible to avoid the hassle of washing and cleaning them upon arrival.
If you are planning to move to a new apartment soon, then unpack only the necessary clothes, cutlery, and dishes. To purchase groceries, go to the nearest supermarket. Next, study the daily life and leisure time of the locals, make acquaintances, look for hobbies you like. Try to add variety to your life and then a safe move is guaranteed to you!
