If for various reasons you need to leave Russia, you need to clearly understand what you want from emigration. Based on these reasons and incentives, the place to which you plan to move is selected. Next we will talk about what is extremely important for immigrants from the Russian Federation to know.
First of all, we need strong determination and a clear choice of country. Then you should check whether you will be released from Russia: if there are any debts, a flight ban has been imposed, or other reasons preventing emigration, they must be eliminated. Then you should apply for a visa, move to the country, obtain a residence permit, permanent residence, and then citizenship (if necessary and possible). This is a universal algorithm in which various changes are possible depending on the characteristics of emigration. If you win a green card, then everything becomes simpler; if you apply for a residence permit for study or purchase of real estate or investment, the same applies. Sometimes only a stateless visa is possible, as in the UAE; there are many other nuances that should be thoroughly clarified during the process of preparing documents.
What is the easiest country to immigrate to without money?
Traveling abroad for permanent residence is associated with large expenses. You have to leave your home as collateral, sell cars and expensive property in order to collect as much money as possible and as quickly as possible for moving. If this is not possible, you have to do things differently and look for cheap options. Below is the TOP 3 countries where it is relatively easy for a Russian to move without large investments.
Thailand. This country is considered a cheap holiday destination, but recently many Russians have begun to seriously think about Thailand as a country to which it is quite possible to emigrate for permanent residence. The local climate, culture and inexpensive living conditions attract those who want to escape from problems in their homeland. However, according to reviews from Russians who have decided to move, everyone is faced with the problem of finding a job. It is almost impossible to find work here, with the exception of highly qualified specialists that the country needs. The rest of those who left continue to work in Russia remotely.
Cuba. The Atlantic Ocean, local exoticism and low prices attract both tourists and those wishing to emigrate abroad for permanent residence to Cuba. Again, the main problem is finding a job. There are many jobs for agricultural workers in Cuba, but the pay is low. In Cuba it is almost impossible to obtain citizenship, but residence permits are issued without any problems - therefore Cuba is included in the list of countries where it is easiest to leave Russia.
Bulgaria. It is the cheapest and most comfortable country for Russians who want to live in Europe to move to. Bulgaria is not suitable for big earnings, but it has other advantages: excellent ecology, low prices for rent and purchase of housing, food. Tax fees for entrepreneurs in Bulgaria are lower than in other European countries. The mentality of the population and the language are close to Russians. Upon receipt of a Bulgarian residence permit, the possibility of visa-free visits to EU countries opens up.
Depression in Russia and we are in fourth place in the world
In recent days, various studies have been published, ranging from how many people want to leave the country, how many Russians do not read books, and also the fact that our country has reached fourth place in the world in terms of depression and anxiety. Let's look at these points in more detail.

International data collection and analysis company Statista conducted an international study of mental health. Respondents were asked whether they had experienced mental health problems in the past 12 months. Based on the answers, a ranking of countries was compiled, in which Russia took fourth place. The top three were Sweden, the USA and Brazil.
In Sweden, 46% of respondents believe that they have encountered mental health problems, 42% of respondents answered positively in the USA, 40% of Brazilians also gave an affirmative answer. In Russia this figure was 38%. However, in our country, anxiety and depressive disorders are poorly diagnosed by medical specialists, most people do not seek help, and only recently, talking about this more and more, has public awareness risen.

According to the UN, millions of people around the world suffer from mental disorders, and it is estimated that one in four people in the world will experience a mental disorder in their lifetime. Mental health problems, including alcohol abuse, are among the ten leading causes of disability in both developed and developing countries. In particular, depression is the third largest global burden and is projected to take first place by 2030.

According to the results of a survey by the Levada Center (an organization recognized in Russia as an NGO that performs the functions of a foreign agent), more than a fifth of Russians (22%) would like to move to live abroad, 77% would not. The survey was conducted May 20–26, 2021 with the participation of 1,620 adult respondents from 137 localities in Russia.
The share of Russians wishing to emigrate has reached its highest level since 2013. In recent years, this figure has been growing - in 2021 it was 15%. And more often than others, young people want to leave the country: among respondents aged 18 to 24, 48% expressed such a desire, among people aged 25 to 39 - 33%.

VTsIOM presents data on how much Russians read and how they see modern domestic writers.
The largest group of respondents (44%) reported that they had read from 1 to 5 books over the past six months. This category of readers is more common among Muscovites and St. Petersburg residents (55%) and residents of cities with a population of over a million (52%), Russians with higher and incomplete higher education (50%) and citizens 25-34 years old (51%). In addition, such readers are 47% among citizens 35-44 years old, women and active Internet users.
One in four (25%) respondents have read five or more books and can be classified as “avid readers.” They are most represented among young people aged 18-24 (38%), Russians with higher and incomplete higher education (31%), they include 29% of residents of cities from 100 to 500 thousand people, 28% of residents of Moscow and St. St. Petersburg, cities with a population of over a million, and Russians 60 years and older.
About a third of respondents (30%) have not read a single book over the past six months. This group is most numerous among men (36%), those who do not use the Internet (48%), those with little education, those with incomplete secondary or secondary education (48%), and rural residents (46%).
The most popular writers among Russians are Daria Dontsova (5%), Boris Akunin (4%), Zakhar Prilepin (4%), Victor Pelevin (3%) and Tatyana Ustinova (3%). The top most popular writers are the same for all three groups of readers, while the five most popular authors were more often mentioned in the responses of “non-readers” (Dontsova - 7%, Akunin - 6%, Prilepin - 5%, Pelevin - 7%, Ustinova - 4%) . Avid readers were more likely than others to name authors who did not receive 1% of responses (31% versus 18% among all respondents).

TOP 10 best countries to move from Russia in 2021
Immigration to Sweden
The Kingdom of Sweden has become the most popular immigration destination for many reasons:
- free quality education;
- free medicine;
- high quality of life;
- tolerant attitude of the indigenous population towards visitors;
- high profit payment;
- good level of ecology.
It is not surprising that many Russians are thinking about moving to Sweden. Refugee from Russia may not be considered; Sweden does not recognize the countries of the former USSR as potentially dangerous and rarely grants refugee status. The only option for obtaining refugee status may be persecution due to belonging to a sexual minority.
To become a Swedish citizen, you must have lived legally in the country for at least 5 years. The waiting period is reduced for refugees and those married to a Swedish citizen.

Immigration to Canada
Canada, like Sweden, is one of the most open countries for migrants who want to study, live and work on its territory. Therefore, Russian immigration to this country is a frequent phenomenon. Canada is a multicultural state, so if you live permanently you do not have to give up your ethnic values. Children born here automatically receive Canadian citizenship, and the nationality of the parents does not matter. An adult can obtain citizenship 3 years after receiving a permanent residence permit.
Why is Canada so attractive to Russians? A high standard of living, social security, high-quality medical services, almost zero crime, excellent environmental conditions make this country a destination for moving with the hope of a better life. A stable economic situation, cheap medicine, and developed infrastructure are achieved by levying high taxes on workers. But taxpayers see how the authorities used the collected funds. Among other things, Canada is one of the few countries that accept emigrants from Russia without any special obstacles.

Immigration to Switzerland
Switzerland is one of the most stable and reliable countries where the population is satisfied with their standard of living. Average life expectancy (compared to other European countries) is the highest. This is facilitated not only by well-developed medicine, but also by the local climate. The majority of those living in Switzerland are migrants - out of 8.6 million people, only 900,000 are considered native Swiss. Switzerland is not the easiest country to emigrate from Russia. It is quite difficult to obtain citizenship - you need to live in the country for 12 years. But legal stay here can be achieved by obtaining a temporary or permanent residence permit. To do this, you need to either get a job, or study at one of the Swiss universities with subsequent employment, or become an investor.
Budget emigration options
Usually, when moving, money is needed to pay for housing, obtain permits, buy tickets and stay for the first time, so people have to sell their property. But there are also options that do not require large expenses.
Job
- If the applicant knows the language of the state and has at least minimal skills, he can find a job. The search should be done before moving.
- You can find an employer through contacts, specialized international agencies, in various media, in social network groups and on various well-known Internet resources (Monster, HeadHunter, Indeed, LinkedIn).
- If the applicant is employed as a highly qualified specialist, it is necessary to legalize the diploma, translate it into the language of the country of relocation, and obtain a work license.
Studies
- Many foreign countries, especially developed ones, are faced with a demographic problem and now need young specialists. Therefore, many universities in America, Europe and other countries offer different programs for foreign students.
- Programs can be free, such as in Germany and France. Competitions are often announced for the provision of grants (a fixed amount for training) and scholarships (monthly payments for training and living).
- All programs require subsequent employment in a specialty in the country where the education was received for several years. These are the terms of the contract.
Immigration programs
Often, countries in need of a flow of immigrants develop special programs aimed at facilitating the relocation procedure.
Their meaning is that, depending on the knowledge and skills of a potential immigrant, he is awarded points. When you collect a certain number of points, the opportunity to obtain a residence permit opens.
Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Austria and the UK have similar programs.
Family reunion
All countries in the world have relocation programs for relatives of local citizens or residents of the country.
States facing demographic problems often invite foreigners who are direct descendants of their citizens to relocate.
Similar programs exist in almost all countries (including Russia, European countries, the CIS, Israel). Immigrants are provided with financial assistance for the first time.
Marriage with a foreigner
This method is the fastest. Spouses of foreigners can easily obtain a residence permit, and subsequently foreign citizenship.
It is important to note that moving through a fictitious marriage is extremely dangerous, since if the deception is discovered, state authorities can apply severe punishment to the fraudster.

Nuances of some emigration programs
- In some countries, citizenship can be obtained by land rights, for example, in the USA. Therefore, women often go there to give birth. But moving on this basis is quite difficult, because there are no benefits for parents. In addition, upon reaching adulthood, a child may be required to choose a citizenship.
- Many Russians think that obtaining refugee status and subsequently receiving subsidies abroad is simple. In practice this is not the case. The procedure for granting refugee status is multi-step and requires documentary evidence of oppression in the homeland.
- The Au Pair program is not an immigration program. It only allows foreign students to work for European families. The period of participation can range from 3 months to 2 years.
Participation in the US Green Card Lottery
The lottery is held annually by the US State Department. Absolutely every adult foreigner can take part in it. To do this, you need to register on the program website and submit documents for participation.
The lottery is drawn randomly: from all the countries in the world, those from which the immigration flow to the United States is minimal are selected, and then the winners are selected.
Winning the lottery does not mean receiving a green card. First you need to pay the costs associated with applying for a visa, go through an interview and arrange your move.
According to participants, these are very expensive procedures.
Ways to emigrate from Russia
If a Russian has firmly set himself the task “I want to immigrate,” he should know about the main options for implementing this action. They are considered separately.
Employment
Labor emigration is the most common option among those who do not have the funds for business investments and family relationships with a foreigner. You have to look for a job on the Internet and contact a potential employer yourself. Many of them put forward mandatory criteria: having a higher education diploma, work experience in their home country, certain age limits, etc. If the employer agrees to hire a foreigner, he prepares a package of documents and submits them to the local Ministry of Internal Affairs. After the checks, the employee will receive a message that they can begin applying for a work visa.
Education
Studying abroad provides a residence permit only for the duration of your studies, however, it is an excellent opportunity to acquire a foreign diploma and find a job in your specialty. The chances that an employer will provide a decent vacancy to a foreigner who has graduated from a local university are high. During your studies, you can become more familiar with everyday life in the country, the culture of its inhabitants, and decide for yourself whether it is really good to live abroad permanently.
Emigration routes
How to move for permanent residence to another country? In general, the emigration process consists of the following stages:
- obtaining a visa to enter the chosen power;
- obtaining a temporary residence permit;
- after several years of residence under a residence permit, you can obtain a permanent residence permit;
- After a few more years, if other conditions are met, you can obtain citizenship or remain as a permanent resident.
The number of years that must be lived under various residence permits before obtaining citizenship - the period of naturalization - depends on the laws of a particular country and on the basis available to the emigrant, for example:
- marriage with a foreigner or family reunification;
- studying at a local university;
- contract job;
- organizing your own business;
- investments;
- refugee;
- presence of ancestors of the corresponding nationality.
Marriage and family
If your other half has foreign citizenship, in most cases you can assume that your residence permit is already in your pocket. Some states immediately grant citizenship to foreign spouses without unnecessary hassle, others first check the strength of the marriage, but usually do not plot intrigues. The main requirements are real family relationships, knowledge of the local language, and the financial viability of the spouse. Favorable countries for emigrating from Russia in this case are Italy, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, and Ireland.
A foreigner who has a residence permit there can also call his family abroad. Typically, in this case, it is required that the marriage has already existed for at least three years at the time of moving.
Study and work
A student visa does not usually qualify you for permanent resident status. However, living experience, knowledge of a “living” language and local education enable the graduate to find a suitable job.
Labor emigration is a suitable option for those who do not have foreign roots and a bank account does not allow them to buy citizenship by investment. This is the case when almost everything depends on the person himself, his qualifications, hard work and knowledge of the language. The choice of future place of residence depends on the situation on the labor market. The main difficulty is to find an employer, enter into an agreement with him and renew the agreement for the required number of years.
Business and investment
In order not to depend on the whims of the labor market, you can create a workplace for yourself. In many countries, business immigration is welcomed, and a favorable tax climate and laws will not “sink” your business and will allow you to develop.
Having enough funds, you can invest them in the economy, and the required amount is proportional to the well-being of the country. Sometimes an investor can obtain a residence permit without even passing a language test.
The simplest example is permanent residence in Spain for the purchase of housing for a certain amount. Therefore, quite a few people are interested in and use citizenship for the purchase of real estate.
Refugee
Where can you leave Russia for permanent residence in 2021 to obtain refugee status? With it you can quickly obtain citizenship of any country. The main thing is to prove that you have the right to do so. For relatively prosperous Russian families, this is hardly a worthy option. Even for Ukrainian citizens who lived in an armed conflict zone, despite the real threat to their life and health, it is very difficult to obtain this status. Only a few are lucky in the literal sense.
Roots
Not only Russia gathers compatriots around the world - many countries with demographic problems are ready to provide preferential conditions for obtaining citizenship to representatives of their nation. The main conditions are to have at least some knowledge of the language of your ancestors and to have original documents confirming your nationality. So you can move to Germany, Israel, Hungary, Greece, Poland.
Where do people leave Russia for permanent residence: statistics for 2017-2018
Statistics show that in recent years there has been a sharp jump in the emigration of Russians. Russians began to leave their native lands in large numbers. You can follow the trend in the graph below.
The graph shows that Russians predominantly migrate to CIS countries, where it is possible to enter (and move) without a visa; a small part of the population decides to move to more remote countries, among which Germany and the USA are still the leaders. Below is the percentage statistical distribution of Russian immigrants in the world.
There are many more people wishing to move abroad for permanent residence in order to start a new life from scratch than those who have decided to take such a step. However, the results of a survey among the Russian population show that a significant part of citizens want to leave the Russian Federation.
Stages of emigration, where to start moving to another country
Moving is a troublesome business. Before you take decisive action - applying for a visa, you need to properly prepare for the move using a simple algorithm.
- After weighing the pros and cons, choose the most suitable state for living abroad.
- To get acquainted with the options and features of migration programs from Russia, perhaps you will find a suitable one.
- Learn a foreign language while still at home. Immigrating without knowing the language is quite difficult.
- If possible, apply for a tourist visa (if necessary), go to the chosen country and get to know it better.
- Assess earning opportunities in the selected state by region. Choose one where it is easier to find a job. Labor emigration requires contact with an employer and the conclusion of an employment contract. Then it becomes possible to obtain a work visa for a period of one year.
- Try to rent (buy) housing. If there are documents that the immigrant has a place of residence in the country, migration services consider the entry application more loyally.
- Draw up a step-by-step moving plan and calculate expenses.
If you follow these steps, moving to a foreign land will be quite easy, and the emigrant himself will feel as comfortable as possible in his new place of residence.
Dominican Republic
The state strives to attract tourists and investors to its territory, therefore the migration authorities are highly loyal to visitors. To move, you will need to follow one of the following paths:
- Carrying out legal business activities.
- Large capital investments in the economy.
- Conclusion of an official contract with the employer.
- Having relatives in the country or marrying a citizen.
In addition, the authorities are willing to grant residence permits to those who wish to simply reside on their territory and not carry out any activities. It is only necessary that their regular income allows it. Obtaining a residence permit in the Dominican Republic is simple; all registration procedures take place practically in one window.
It is possible to move to another country! Now it is easy to obtain a residence permit, permanent residence and even citizenship of another state. Any migration issues can be resolved with international law lawyers. There are those who deal with migration issues. Their consultation is free!
In addition to the standard set of identification documents and photographs, you must have the following certificates:
- Letter of guarantee from a resident of the Dominican Republic and 3 copies of it.
- Two guarantors and two local witnesses that all information provided is correct.
- Certificates of no criminal record in the Dominican Republic and in Russia.
- Certificate of absence of particularly dangerous diseases.
- 23,000 rubles to pay the state duty.
Help with moving abroad
It is not always possible to organize a move abroad on your own - bureaucratic operations are complex and cause enormous stress. You can resort to the help of special companies offering services in the field of emigration from Russia. The Internet is full of similar companies, but it can be difficult to choose a specific one. First, you need to compare prices in several similar companies and choose the average ones, read real reviews, browse the company’s official website, etc. It is especially important to familiarize yourself with the conditions under which the move is carried out. If a company offers to emigrate from Russia without a large package of documents or even illegally, it is better not to start working with it. To be able to analyze data, you need to know the basics of the migration laws of the host country.
