7 steps to move to Bali and set up a workplace there

Having visited Bali once, many dream of moving to this warm island surrounded by the ocean forever. But moving for permanent residence to the island is a rather labor-intensive process associated with the preparation of many documents, searching for legal work and settling in a new place from scratch. The main problem for immigrants is precisely finding a legal source of income. If a person does not have the skills to work remotely and bring a decent income, then it will be difficult for him to find a job in Bali, given the limited local labor market. You will also need to obtain a suitable visa and learn foreign languages.

How to move to Bali for permanent residence

Indonesian permanent resident status can be obtained after three years of residence in the country with a residence permit. Foreign spouses of Indonesian citizens and some other categories of immigrants can become permanent residents of the country of thousands of islands immediately, without three years of residence permit.

To obtain permanent residence, you must have sufficient grounds, as well as successfully pass the appropriate tests for integration into Indonesian society and knowledge of the state language of the country. The issuance is handled by the same Indonesian Immigration Department. The waiting period for a decision on it is slightly longer than for a residence permit. It will be about one month, and the cost of administrative services will cost about $700.

The Indonesian Language and Social Integration Tests are a short examination in which you must demonstrate familiarity with the basics of the language and be able to write personal information in Indonesian. Officials are well aware that a foreigner, who in the past was completely distant from the language and culture of Indonesia, is unlikely to be able to master a completely unfamiliar language and become imbued with local cultural traditions in a few years. Therefore, the test for integration into Indonesian society is also not particularly difficult.

Bali is a place where you don’t want to return to reality

Additional documents to the basic package for obtaining a residence permit will include:

  • confirmation of stable and sufficient legal income in the country;
  • certificate of family composition;
  • a certificate from the police stating that during the stay in the residence permit the foreign citizen was not involved in serious offenses.

The status of a permanent resident of the Republic of Indonesia may be lost if its holder is absent from the country for more than five years in a row, in case of serious violations of the law (for example, drug trafficking), as well as in the event of a voluntary refusal of the foreigner.

Indonesian citizenship can be obtained after five years as a permanent resident. In this case, it is necessary that during this entire period the candidate for citizenship is absent from Indonesian territory for no more than one year in total. And in the last year before submitting an application for citizenship, you can stay outside the country for no more than one month.

Indonesia does not recognize dual citizenship, so when you become an Indonesian citizen you will have to give up your Russian passport. It is for this reason that the overwhelming number of foreigners are in Indonesia for residence permits and permanent residence.

Indonesian Citizenship

Obtaining citizenship is based on the Indonesian Citizenship Law of January 1, 1946, as amended on August 1, 1958.

Citizenship by birth

A child born in Indonesia between January 1, 1946 and August 1, 1958, regardless of the nationality of the parents. Birth in Indonesia on or after August 1, 1958 does not automatically entitle you to citizenship. The exception would be a child born of unknown parents.

Citizenship by descent

A child born abroad between January 1, 1946 and August 1, 1958 to an Indonesian father or an unknown Indonesian father and mother. If a child was born on or after August 1, 1958, he becomes an Indonesian citizen if his father is an Indonesian citizen, regardless of place of birth. If a child was born on or after August 1, 1958, he becomes an Indonesian citizen regardless of his place of birth if his mother is an Indonesian citizen and his father is unknown.

Obtaining citizenship through marriage

Foreign women who marry Indonesian citizens can obtain citizenship if they renounce their previous passport.

Naturalization of foreigners

Indonesian citizenship can be obtained by fulfilling a number of conditions. The person must:

  1. Provide evidence of loss of previous citizenship,
  2. Reach 21 years of age
  3. Be born in Indonesia, or live five years continuously, or live ten years intermittently in Indonesia,
  4. Know the Indonesian language and the history of the country,
  5. Have no criminal record
  6. Have normal mental and physical health,
  7. Have a permanent livelihood
  8. Obtain your spouse's permission (if applicable).

Dual citizenship is not recognized in Indonesia.

Renunciation of citizenship and grounds for its loss

The law allows for voluntary renunciation of Indonesian citizenship. Details can be obtained from your nearest embassy. In some cases, loss of citizenship is also possible. If a person acquires foreign citizenship without the permission of the Minister of Justice of Indonesia, he loses his Indonesian citizenship. If a person enters military service in a foreign army without the permission of the Minister of Justice, he loses citizenship. There are also other grounds for loss.

Is it worth it or not to go to Bali?

I don’t have the right to decide for someone whether it’s worth going to Bali, but I can say one thing for sure: on the Internet, Bali looks too heavenly. After reading all the blogs about the island, where there is only good things, I found myself in a completely earthly place, with its own flaws and its own merits. Read the blog article “5 reasons to be disappointed in Bali” - that’s all you need to know about the disadvantages of the island.

Bali is a beautiful, unique island with its own culture and traditions. Will it find a response in your heart? You won't know unless you've been there.

Do you need a visa in Bali or not?

If you want to go live in Bali

and leave your homeland for a long time, then in this case you must also follow the above rules, but in addition, become more familiar with the nuances of issuing a visa. This is exactly what we will talk about here and now.

Main types of visas for residence in Indonesia:

1. Tourist without the possibility of extension (1 month) - free

2. Tourist with the possibility of extension (1 month + 1 month) - 65 dollars (35+30).

3. Social (2 months + 1 + 1 + 1 +1) - $50 registration at the Indonesian embassy in any country in the world + $50 extension for each subsequent month when living in Bali.

4. Work visa - $1,200 per year, plus $450 application fee.

5. Business visa - single entry $50 (for 2 months + 1 + 1 + 1+ 1) for up to six months and multiple entry $100 (2 months - then departure and arrival) for up to a year.

How to get a visa to Bali

Now let's look at the topic in more detail.

Let's start with the fact that citizens of the Russian Federation do not need a visa to stay in Indonesia for up to 30 days. This is due to the fact that the visa document is issued upon arrival at the local airport. Moreover, the procedure is absolutely free.

But as soon as a month of your stay has passed, you will have to fly out of the country. For staying on the territory of the state without a visa, fines and even deportation are provided.

It is also possible to live 2 months in Bali on a tourist visa, but for this, upon arrival right at the airport, you need to pay a fee of 35 US dollars and put a special mark.

This mark gives you the opportunity to extend your visa for another month after a month of residence.

One week before the end of your stay (1 month), you need to contact the Immigration Service in Indonesia.

You need to have about $30, a passport and a return ticket (real or fake). After this, you have another month to rest.

In order to live in Bali for more than 60 days (in total), you need to apply for a social visa.

The validity of this document is up to 6 months, and if you leave the state, it will be canceled.

It should also be noted that a visa does not provide the right to work, so if you need a job, you need to take care of getting a work one.

A work visa is issued in your home country. It will take you more than 3 months to prepare all the necessary documents for this type of visa.

The visa is issued for 6 months. This pleasure costs $1200 + $450 fee.

To obtain a work visa, you need to have an invitation from an employer in Indonesia to a specific company for a specific position. With a Work visa, you have the right to work only in the position and in the company indicated on the visa.

But if you are still going to work offline in Indonesia (as a waiter, a photographer in a company, a guide, a surfing instructor, etc.), then it is better to apply for a work visa.

Violation of the visa regime is punishable by a fine of $2,700 (or prison for up to 5 years) and deportation with a ban on visiting the country for 2 years.

Indonesian citizenship.

Indonesian citizenship can be acquired through marriage to an Indonesian citizen. This is a new method that was provided by the Indonesian Citizenship Acquisition Law in 2006. An Indonesian spouse must be a sponsor to establish Indonesian citizenship status.

Rights that provide grounds for obtaining Indonesian citizenship: - Being legally married to an Indonesian citizen. -Indonesian citizenship does not conflict with citizenship of another country. -The applicant, when applying for citizenship, must reside in Indonesia for at least 5 years of continuous stay, that is, with a work visa, and 10 years of stay with short breaks! This is an essential condition for acquiring citizenship.

The applicant's application for citizenship must be submitted in Indonesia, in writing, in the applicant's handwriting, in the Indonesian language, on a special form, with a fee paid, to the local office of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, under the jurisdiction of the place of residence. After submitting the documents, the above-mentioned department has 4 months to review your right to citizenship. If the decision is positive for the applicant, he has 14 days to return the citizenship of the country of which he was previously a citizen. What if your application is rejected? In case of rejection of the application for acquisition of citizenship from the Kitas-holder (Kitas-work visa), he will receive a KITAP (Kartu Ijin Tinggal Tetap) permanent residence permit, which is valid for 5 years. If you are not married to an Indonesian citizen? You must go through the naturalization process taking into account the following requirements: 1. You are 18 years old 2. You have resided in Indonesia for at least 5 years of continuous stay, that is, with a work visa, and 10 years of short-term stay. 3. You are physically and mentally healthy 4. Knowledge of the Indonesian language, knowledge of Pancha Sila statehood and the 1945 Constitution. 5. You have not been prosecuted by the law of other states and have not been sentenced to imprisonment for more than 1 year 6. When acquiring Indonesian citizenship, you renounce the citizenship of any other country of which you are citizens. 7. Employment, stable income, availability of money in a bank account 8. Payment of government fees for naturalization.

The application for naturalization must be sent in writing, in Indonesian, on a special form addressed to the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the Minister of Justice!

A copy of the Presidential Decree on Naturalization and Granting Citizen Status becomes legal proof that the owner is an Indonesian citizen

Entertainment

The main attraction of Bali is the ocean - free of charge. But you won’t have to spend a lot in entertainment venues either. Nightclub lovers will find a cluster of them in the central areas of Bali. There are music bars, cafes, discos with famous DJs. You can spend 300 rubles per night, but it’s better to be careful not to spend too much.

Almost all expats do surfing in Bali. Some even move here just to catch the wave. To learn how to stand on a board professionally, you will have to hire an instructor and practice at least several times a week. Classes will begin with theory and continue in the ocean. After the first lessons, mistakes will be explained to you, and after 4-5 lessons you can already surf confidently. One lesson costs about 1000 rubles. Renting a board will cost 400-600 rubles, purchasing – 4000-5000.

Pros of living in Bali

Sun, sea and sand

It is obvious. The ocean has always attracted and will attract thousands of people, it is impossible not to love it, it is difficult to find those whom it leaves indifferent, and for hundreds of surfers this is the main and sufficient argument, after which other arguments no longer matter. Yes, Bali has unique beaches and in some places it is impossible to swim there due to large waves, but still regularly breathing sea air, swimming, surfing, sunbathing and warming your favorite heels in the sand is a great advantage of living at sea.

Greenery, flowers, beauty

Lots of lush vegetation, exotic flowers, greenery. Orchids of different shapes and colors, frangipani in every ear and hundreds of names, most of which are ready to bloom in your garden. The eye never tires of rejoicing at the vibrant display of the surrounding flora in all its multicolor (and being frightened by the surrounding fauna, in the form of large insects, snakes, they even say scorpions, but God had mercy on me).

The Balinese value beauty and know how to cultivate it: traditional homes, wood carvings, furniture, and interior items are made with taste and unique grace. Of course, houses that have been hastily erected for the endless needs of visiting foreigners are not included in this list, but a sense of beauty shines through the classical buildings and crafts of Bali.

Calm, smiles, no rush

Disputes about the sincerity of the smiles of local residents are a favorite debate between foreigners living here and visiting guests. Some people value Bali precisely for its open faces and laughter, while others strive to expose its inhabitants for insincerity. In fact, the question is really a difference in mentality. Whereas in our country a smile reads “I like you”, and sometimes “I really like you”, in Bali smiles have different interpretations, one of which is simply a form of politeness. A local resident may not particularly like you (he has the right, by the way), but he will smile because this is a more natural state for him than frowning. It's polite. It’s not just foreigners who smile; they constantly smile among themselves and even at themselves. So I am among those opponents who appreciate Southeast Asia for its crowning smiles and do not consider them selfish.

International communication

The opportunity to communicate with people from all over the world, to live surrounded by many different nationalities, is very valuable. English immediately improves, the boundaries of consciousness expand, many conventions that previously imperceptibly restrained development reveal themselves, opening the door to new perspectives. As a bonus, fears like traveling on your own to a country you haven’t been to before, talking to someone you don’t know, or, for example, stopping comparing people with the set of ideas about life with which you grew up, go away.

Cheaper lifestyle

Rumors about the cheapness of Bali are greatly exaggerated. Just the other day, while shopping for groceries with a friend, we were once again amazed at our bill; having bought mostly vegetables and fruits, as well as some cheese and chocolate, we spent about $50. For the vegetables and fruits that grow here? If you pamper yourself in restaurants and clubs, go to the spa, periodically attend concerts of a passing star, then the amount you get is far from small, you shouldn’t delude yourself. But at the same time, prices on the island are a definite plus. Whatever one may say, it is more profitable here than in Russia, and besides, there is a great opportunity to wear summer clothes all year round, which are cheaper in themselves and eliminate the need to spend money on a fall-winter-spring set.

New experience

Everything is different here: from interpersonal communication to the types of fruits. This is a sure way to reveal abilities and test over time some passionate desires that may fade in a new environment. In my opinion, only new experience makes a person multifaceted, and Asia, in this case, is an excellent tool for cutting, with such a different system of values, beliefs and outlook on life.

Living in Indonesia: Pros and Cons

It is definitely difficult to answer the question about the pros and cons of living in Indonesia: what is a positive side for one may be a negative side for another. Everything is individual. Therefore, we will consider all possible subtleties together, without trying to separate them.

Climate. There is never winter on this island; warmth reigns all year round . Therefore, Russians who are fleeing our harsh winters cannot but rejoice at this. However, here you can experience rainy seasons and serious storms. In summer, Bali has humid tropics with temperatures above +40 degrees.

Organic food. On the island you can eat local vegetables and fruits every day, which are in abundance there, but most of them will be unusual for the Russian body. There is simply nothing to prepare some Russian dishes in Indonesia. The diet in Bali may seem too monotonous to Russians.

Education . Finding a nanny, kindergarten or school here is not difficult, but all the employees and teachers of these institutions speak Indonesian or English. Of course, you can find a nanny who speaks Russian, but her services will cost much more than those who speak Indonesian.

Medicine. There are only a few hospitals on the island that meet international standards, so if insurance does not cover treatment, it can be very expensive.

The ratio of income and expenses. Contrary to the general belief that living in Bali requires very little money, in reality everything turns out to be somewhat different. One thousand American dollars is a fairly economical budget for living on this island, while incomes greater than this amount are not so common. You still need to look for an employer willing to pay that much to a foreigner.

Well developed service sector. There are a lot of hotels, cafes, restaurants, surf clubs and many more establishments for tourists. But there is practically no production here. Since the Indonesian authorities are not interested in helping foreigners who want to open their own business on the island, it is quite difficult to find a job here, only if in the service and tourism sectors. In other areas, finding a job is quite difficult, just like starting your own business in some other area.

Pastime and relaxation. In this paradise you can find many beautiful places for photo shoots, surfing and hiking. But even here there was a “fly in the ointment”. You can’t really get around the island on foot , only on a scooter or car. At the same time, the roads leave much to be desired, which is why long traffic jams form in populated areas.

Holidays in Bali - unique attractions that are definitely worth seeing

Do you think that the distant tropical paradise called the island of Bali has stunning golden beaches, unsurpassed landscapes, mysterious majestic volcanoes and impenetrable tropics... and that’s all? No, this island also attracts with unusual temples on the water, which sacredly protect the purity of Buddhist traditions.

Coming into contact with numerous religious rituals and traditions that the island’s inhabitants adhere to, it’s as if you are immersed in another unknown world. The holidays of the local population, overflowing with intricate colors, will also give tourists unforgettable memories.

Stunning Balinese Resorts

The island of Bali is crowded with resorts. They surrounded the island on all sides. Tourist acquaintance usually begins with the resorts of the southern part of Bali, where the international airport is located. To make it easier for you to decide which resort would be the ideal option for you, you should find out for yourself what exactly you want to get from your vacation.

Is it worth moving to Bali?

Among the many popular resorts in Asia, the island of Bali stands out. It is in demand due to its amenities and developed infrastructure. Many of our compatriots have already moved to Bali.

It is almost impossible for foreigners to obtain citizenship of this country, while they can comfortably stay in Bali as a resident. You will receive many benefits:

  • legal residence in the beautiful country of Indonesia with amazing nature and tropical climate;
  • the opportunity to find legal work;
  • opportunity to open your own business.

The advantages of having a Bali residence permit are difficult to compare with a residence permit in Germany or the USA, but it gives many pleasant moments. You can enjoy summer and relaxation by the ocean all year round, and travel on a budget to the Philippines, Singapore or Australia.

Accommodation prices are much lower than in Moscow and other large Russian cities. The people of Bali are friendly towards visiting tourists and expats.

A little geography and history

Indonesia is an island country, and those who decide to emigrate to this country need to decide which city to go to. In addition to the famous Bali, Java, Sumatra, Ubud, Borneo, and Komodo are popular among expats. Some choose the densely populated capital of Indonesia, Jakarta, for temporary or longer-term residence.

Wealthy Dutch settled on the island of Java in the last century: Indonesia was a colony of the Netherlands for several years after World War II. Then there was a war with Japan, but today Indonesia is an independent country with its own flag, coat of arms, constitution and economy, tourism plays an important role in its development.

Official employment

Having moved to Indonesia for permanent residence, you need to worry about the financial component in advance. If you have passive income in your home country (for example, renting out an apartment), then this is not a bad plus. This alone may not be enough.

Based on local legislation, foreign residents cannot get jobs as guides and doctors. An exception may be made if the foreigner is a unique specialist in a certain field. To do this you need to receive a personal invitation.

To get a job in any field of activity, you need to learn the Indonesian language. Without knowing the language, it will be difficult to move to Bali for permanent residence and get any job.

The average salary ranges from $150 per month. Considering the cost of goods and services, this amount will be enough for a normal stay. For example, renting a house will cost 1-2 thousand dollars a year. It turns out that immigration will not become a financial problem.

In addition to other necessary documents for legal activities in the country, it is necessary to conclude a contract with the employer for several months (seasonal) or several years

The employer will be required to ask for a cover letter that specifies the employee's responsibilities, type of employment, exact timing of the work, and other terms of the contract. In addition, you must obtain a permit to work in the country from the Migration Department.

Many people, seeing good benefits, immigrate to Bali and implement ways to obtain permanent residence in Indonesia. Just don’t forget about the subtleties and features of this trip.

Taxi in Bali

Taxi in Bali is a sore point. There are two types of taxi drivers: mafia taxis who jack up prices, and taxi drivers who can be called through an app.

Our contact with the taxi mafia almost ended in a fight, I wrote about it here. Avoid these people.

There are several taxi services on the island: Grab-taxi, Go-Jack, Blue taxi.

Taxis in Bali are quite cheap. Taxi prices are approximately as follows: from the airport to Seminyak we took a Blue taxi for 90 thousand rupees ($7), and a Go-Jack taxi driver took us for 50 thousand rupees ($4), the local taxi mafia offered to get there for 250 thousand rupees

Through the Grab-taxi and Go-Jack applications you can call a motorcycle taxi, which is very convenient in Balinese traffic jams.

Lifehack for all times: Go-Jack

Go-Jack is more than just a taxi app. Through Go-Jack you can order groceries from the store and even a masseuse to your home! We used Go-Jack all the time. No, they didn’t call a masseuse, they ordered food in cafes and taxis.

Taxi drivers in Go-Jack all speak English more or less, we have never had any problems with them.

It is better to book a taxi from/to the airport in advance. Grab or Go-jack may be afraid to come to the airport, this is fraught with trouble for them. Taxis can be ordered on the kiwi-taxi website or.

Flight and first steps

Flight to Bali
Experienced tourists already know the features of Bali and can choose a quiet or active place to live. The island has interesting resort complexes for vacationers and cozy places for everyday life. Even before moving, it makes sense to visit different settlements in the center, on the coast or in cultural zones to find “your” atmosphere. Then it will be more convenient to book housing for permanent stay. On the other hand, those who are looking for themselves can try different options while already living on the island - wandering from place to place.

It is best to fly to Bali with transfers to low-cost airlines in Asia - this will save on air transport.

  • There is a mobile taxi service directly on the island.
  • There are also many private cab drivers on the streets at popular junctions; they don’t like it when cars pick up tourists when called. However, this unwritten rule will no longer apply to regular users.
  • In addition to taxis, minibuses and buses operate on the island, with which you can go anywhere. Even better is to get your own bicycle or rent a car. At the airport, you should immediately purchase a local SIM card, transport and communications - basic tools in everyday life.

Among the top lively and peaceful places in Bali:

  • Nusa Dua;
  • Jimbaran;
  • Sanur;
  • Lovina;
  • Ubud;
  • Kuta.

It has everything you need for a comfortable life - cozy modern housing, entertainment, bars and even work-friendly courts, cultural institutions, retail outlets and travelers from all over the world for meeting and socializing.

Refusal of residency status

Indonesian authorities rarely refuse to issue residence permits to foreigners. There must be a very serious reason for this. It is indicated in the official letter from the Immigration Department. Further actions of the applicant may be as follows:

  • eliminate the reason if it is purely technical in nature and submit the documents again;
  • file an appeal to an Indonesian court against a negative decision by the country’s immigration authorities;
  • refuse to obtain a residence permit.

An appeal can be filed within two weeks from the date of receipt of the refusal. To be sure, you can use the services of a lawyer who has sufficient experience in resolving immigration issues. The latter are dealt with by a special judge in the Indonesian court.

The main reasons for denial of Indonesian resident status may be:

  • the applicant (applicant) has an insufficient level of income. For this reason, foreign pensioners are usually refused;
  • the potential immigrant has a criminal record;
  • the applicant is associated with organized crime or terrorism, is reasonably suspected of financial crimes, is wanted by Interpol;
  • the authorities of the country of citizenship of the foreigner who applied for a residence permit made a request for his extradition;
  • the most common reason for refusal is a lack of necessary documents.

Violation of Indonesian immigration laws

The relative liberality of Indonesia's immigration laws is more than offset by the administrative and financial consequences of non-compliance. Violators are subject to heavy fines, deportation with a ban on entry, and possible imprisonment in a correctional facility for a short period. It is characteristic that foreigners bear equal responsibility, regardless of their citizenship. Both a US citizen and an Indian citizen are equal before the law.

Obtaining citizenship

Due to the closed nature of Indonesian society, obtaining citizenship will present some difficulties. The only way to become a citizen of the power in question is through marriage to a resident(s).

Indonesian Citizen's Passport. It is difficult to obtain, so foreigners usually settle for permanent residence

Procedures for obtaining citizenship:

  1. You must contact the Russian Embassy in this country and ask for written permission.
  2. You will need to request a marriage certificate. This document is issued by a religious organization if a wedding took place.
  3. Having received these documents, you should go to the Civil Department. Only after this the officer will be able to issue a marriage certificate.

It is worth taking into account the fact that only women will immediately become citizens of the island power if they marry a native resident. It is not so easy for a man to obtain citizenship; he needs to go through some formalities and wait a certain time.

Stages of obtaining citizenship for a man:

  1. First, the man will receive KITAS for two years.
  2. After this period has passed, he has the opportunity to write an application to be issued a KITAP.
  3. When five years of residence of a foreign citizen with a KITAP visa have passed, the man has the right to receive a local passport.

It is worth noting the fact that most foreigners prefer long-term residence under long-term permits and do not ask the question of how to move to Bali after becoming a citizen of this country. Dual citizenship does not apply here, so a foreigner will have to become a citizen of only one country.

Work in Bali

Anyone thinking about working part-time on the island will have to face a number of problems, since work here is quite stressful. The most delicious occupation is providing and servicing wealthy tourists, but such places in Bali have long been snapped up and divided among themselves, so squeezing into this business is quite problematic.

It is much easier to talk to the owners of hotels and villas who are interested in guests renting accommodation from them. In this case, you can act as an intermediary, for which you will have interest.

Some get a job at a hotel, where their task is to help tourists get acquainted with the area, show them the sights, and book places for them in restaurants and salons.

The best option, of course, is to rent out housing in your home country (especially in large cities), and use this money to live peacefully in Indonesia.

Another way could be freelancing, that is, earning money via the Internet.

Making a travel plan

The first thing you need to do when traveling from Russia to Indonesia is to decide on the length of your stay. Basically, all foreigners who live in the island state can be divided into two categories.

  1. People who came with tourist intentions for several weeks or months.
  2. Emigrants who have been on the islands for several years and successfully work and live.

In the case of the first option there is nothing complicated. Firstly, you can contact any travel agency and buy a ticket for a certain period. Secondly, you can fly on vacation on your own without additional costs and problems. All the main points have been given above.

If we are talking about permanent residence in Bali, then it is worth listening to the advice of compatriots who have already walked this path.

Residence permit for immigrants

A residence permit is a kind of long-term visa called KITAS. It is issued for one year with the possibility of annual renewal four more times in a row.

In addition to legal long-term residence, the holder of such a visa has the right to officially work or conduct his business on the island. Unofficial work in Indonesia is strictly prohibited: those who work without permission can either be fined or imprisoned.

Methods for obtaining a residence permit

A residence permit in Indonesia can be obtained in one of the following ways:

  1. Opening your own business. To open your own business on the island, you need to provide registration documents and a business plan to Indonesian officials. We will tell you in more detail about how to open your own business in Indonesia in one of the following articles;
  2. Getting an education. If you are going to study in Indonesia, you will need to apply for a social visa. It is issued for 2 months, and after confirmation of the fact of study at the immigration service, it will be automatically extended. But it is worth keeping in mind that it is better to look for work on the island while still studying, since after graduation, foreign students will not have the opportunity to stay here to look for work for another year or six months;
  3. Work in Indonesia. In this case, it is necessary to obtain a work visa (visa for job seekers). It gives the right to a single entry to the island for up to one year. This visa is only possible with permission from the Indonesian Immigration Service;
  4. Marriage with a citizen of the country. In this case, after two years of living on the island as a temporary resident, it will be possible to obtain permanent resident status, and then count on obtaining citizenship. But it is worth keeping in mind that dual citizenship is not allowed in Indonesia;
  5. Investing in the Indonesian economy. An investment will be considered the purchase of any real estate whose value is above 200 thousand dollars. But the transaction must take place strictly through real estate agencies that have a valid license.

Who else can get a residence permit

The following categories of foreigners can apply for it:

  • specialists in the field of information technology and science;
  • church representatives;
  • investors investing their money in Indonesia's economic development;
  • highly qualified specialists;
  • immediate family members of people who have been Indonesian citizens for more than five years;
  • activists of the volunteer movement.

The Republic of Indonesia is also a member of the international refugee protection program. If the situation in the refugee's home country has not changed for the better after five years, he can become an Indonesian citizen.

What you need to know about immigration to Indonesia

Immigration to Bali is not particularly difficult. As a rule, to get started it is enough to simply fly to the island. Citizens of the Russian Federation do not need a visa to visit Indonesia for tourism purposes.

More precisely, it opens directly at the international airport itself after arrival. It can also be opened in advance in Russia or another state at a diplomatic mission.

Important! To obtain a visa, you only need a foreign passport with a “reserve” of at least six months. It is valid for a month and costs only $25.

Some of our resourceful compatriots, in order to stay on the island longer, fly, for example, to neighboring Singapore and, returning to Bali, apply for a visa for another month. But this method only works for a few months. When it comes to longer stays, it is necessary to obtain a residence permit . We'll tell you how to get it a little later.
