Applying for a work certificate to obtain a Spanish visa

If you are planning a trip to Spain and are going to apply for a Schengen visa in 2021, then you are probably interested in a number of questions: what is its cost, what documents are needed, how to fill out the application form, where to go with all the collected documents - to the visa center or consulate. This material will answer questions related to obtaining a visa to Spain on your own.

You need a Spanish visa if this country is the main purpose of travel or if, when traveling to several Schengen countries at once, the number of days spent in Spain prevails.

Country information

Spain is one of the largest countries in Europe, the mention of which immediately brings to mind the most vivid associations: the unshakable tradition of an afternoon nap - the siesta, a dangerous but spectacular show - bullfighting, incendiary flamenco, and also cigars (yes, they come from Spain, and not Cuba, as is commonly believed). Pablo Picasso, Miguel Cervantes and Salvador Dali were born and worked here, bringing fame to their country.

Spain is officially considered a kingdom, in which the basic law of the state is the constitution adopted in 1978, and the head of state is the king, currently Philip VI.

Spain includes the Balearic (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza) and Canary Islands (Tenerife, Las Palmas), as well as some territories on the African coast.

The official state language is Spanish (Castilian), but there are also 4 other official languages and many dialects, which, according to the constitution, are part of the cultural heritage and enjoy special respect and protection.

You can visit Spain, like the other 25 Schengen countries, with a single Schengen visa.

You can study our material, in which we have covered in as much detail as possible all the general issues related to the issuance of Schengen visas in 2020. Read about the features and differences of obtaining a visa to Spain in this material.

The most important thing we would like to convey with this article is that getting a visa to Spain is not such a labor-intensive process that you can entrust it to travel agents! If you understand how everything works, then everyone can handle it. The main thing in obtaining a visa to Spain is to carefully fill out the application form and collect all the necessary documents. Then all you have to do is come to the visa center and wait for the documents with the visa attached.

What should the certificate contain?

In the age of the Internet, it is difficult to hide something. The first requirement for the content of a work certificate to obtain a visa to Spain is truth. All information must be as reliable as possible.

In order to fill out a document efficiently, it is best to download a sample on the Internet and rely on it. It is important to use information that is not outdated. For example, it is best to look on the embassy website, where the data is regularly updated.

The document must contain the following information:

  1. Full name of the visa applicant.
  2. Passport details.
  3. The name of the company where you work.
  4. The period during which you are an employee of the enterprise.
  5. Job title.
  6. Salary for the last few months and salary amount.
  7. Information that, when going abroad, you took a vacation (number of days), that the position is retained for you, and you will begin fulfilling your duties on such and such a date.

Such a certificate gives a clear idea that you are going to return home from Spain, since you have a job. To avoid any questions, it is best to ask for the salary you received on a monthly basis for the past six months. Some consulates require this information.

This is what a certificate of employment looks like

A decent salary and a bank statement attached to it indicating that you have an account will be a good argument for you to be granted a visa to Spain.

Documents you need to collect

Those who need a Spanish visa in 2021 can rely on last year's requirements. They remained unchanged. You should know that the embassy will not return all original documents that you give, in addition to your passport.

Documents for a visa to Spain

The 2021 standard list includes the following documents:

  • International passport. An important requirement is the presence of two blank pages. In addition, the foreign passport should not expire in the near future. Ots

Powers of the visa center

Visa service centers accept applicants strictly by appointment and check the presence of all necessary documents and a correctly completed application form, take biometrics, and deliver a package of documents to the Consulate General of Spain and back.

Submitting documents through the visa center is convenient: employees will help you correct small mistakes right on the spot and even fill out an application form, and if necessary, you can print documents, make copies of them, as well as photographs for a visa for an additional fee.

Important! Do not confuse the official BLS visa centers with numerous intermediaries - travel agencies who, for an additional fee, will simply accompany you hand in hand to an accredited visa center, as you can do yourself!

Document requirements

To obtain a short-term tourist visa category C, the following set of documents is required: a detailed list on the BLS website.

Let us explain the main points that most often differ from country to country and raise the most questions.

International passports

You will need to provide a valid passport and copies of all its pages, including blank ones. If the applicant has a second passport, its provision is also required. Canceled passports are presented at the discretion of the applicant. It’s the same for copies—even copies from blank pages will be needed.

Copies of completed pages of a general passport

The passport itself will be required to visit the visa center; it will not be taken from you.

The question often arises about passport copies: how many spreads are allowed to be placed on one sheet, since you need copies of absolutely everything, even blank pages of a foreign passport? The answer is simple: do what suits you. There will be no problems if you make four spreads of your passport on one A4 sheet (two on each page).

Proof of residence

Hotel or apartment reservations must include the names of all guests staying. If you make a reservation on Booking, Airbnb or another similar site, do not forget to enter the names of everyone going on the trip correctly (as in your passport).

If you are staying with friends or relatives, a written confirmation from the host party, a copy of the title deed, and a copy of the host party’s documents are suitable as confirmation.

Health insurance policy

When submitting documents, you will definitely need insurance that covers all days of your trip, in the amount of at least 30,000 euros. You can buy it at the visa center, but then it will cost you much more. It is much more convenient and cheaper to choose insurance through Cherehapa or Instore Travel, especially since at home you can easily familiarize yourself with all the insurance conditions and choose, in addition to the main ones, other insurance items that are important to you, be it luggage insurance or flight delay insurance. Do not forget that all insured persons must be registered in the insurance, just like in a passport.

Book roundtrip air tickets

In addition, if you have a complex trip ahead of you, crossing the borders of several countries, then you need to attach an itinerary of your planned movements indicating the dates.

If you plan to travel between Spanish cities on vacation in a rented car, you must include a rental contract and a copy of your international driving license.

Economic guarantees (social status)

Proof of your connection with your homeland and that you are firmly on your feet should be a certificate from work indicating your position and salary, as well as the fact that you are provided with paid leave for the days of your trip with continued pay. Form 2NDFL is also suitable instead.

If you are not working, indicate your Unemployed status in the application form and ensure that you have sufficient funds in your account or a sponsorship letter from a close relative who will pay all expenses associated with your stay in Spain. Financial guarantees from the sponsor will also be required.

A sample sponsorship letter is available. The sponsor may be a close relative, which also includes spouses; do not forget to confirm the fact of the relationship (for example, a copy of the marriage certificate).

Financial support

The minimum amount you must prove is 90 euros per person for each day of stay in Spain (minimum 810 euros per trip per person). At the same time, the daily minimum amount for a child is the same as for an adult.

Evidence may be: a bank account statement (including certificates printed from personal accounts of online banks), traveler's checks or a certificate of currency purchase, a credit card accompanied by a summary of the bank account, a bank card and checks from an ATM regarding the account balance . Account currency - any. These documents are valid for 1 month.

If you enclose a receipt from an ATM indicating the balance on the card and a scan of your bank card as financial guarantees, do not even partially cover up its number so that the copy is not forced to be redone. However, make sure to keep your card's CVC code secret, no one has the right to access it!

VCs in some countries require a certificate confirming the movement of funds in the account over the last three months or six months. For Spain this is not necessary; it is enough to attach only a certificate of the balance in the account. When applying for a multiple-entry visa, sufficient financial coverage for the first trip is required.

Additional documents

No one forbids you to bring additional documents, the mandatory presence of which is not specified in the requirements, but you believe that they may influence the consul’s decision.

For example, in difficult cases, you can and should write a cover letter in free form and attach it to the documents.

Order of documents for submission

It is recommended that you arrange all of the above documents in the order indicated on the BLS website in this document How-to-arrange-the-required-documents-English.pdf.

Don't forget to download and fill out the consent form for the processing of personal data BLS-consent.pdf.

Download the application and fill it out on your computer or by hand in English or Spanish. Print it on both sides of the sheet, that is, on 2 sheets. We always fill out the form by hand with black paste in English. Take your time and write in block letters without any blots.

If your child does not have a foreign passport and it is included in the parent’s, then he also needs an application form with a photo.

Photo. Attach one color photo 3.5 x 4.5 cm to the application form, simply attach the other to the documents. Photo requirements are standard; any photo salon knows about them. The photo must be new, no older than 6 months.

  • Sample form (pdf)

Let us tell you in more detail about the points in the questionnaire that usually cause difficulties when filling out.

Points 5, 6 and 7. In point 5 - place of birth - we write as in the passport. I just have USSR. Point 6 - USSR, if you were born before the collapse of the USSR, and RUSSIAN FEDERATION, if after. Point 7: current citizenship is RUSSIAN FEDERATION, at birth - similar to point No. 6.

Point 16. We simply write RUSSIAN FEDERATION, no FMS number is needed.

Point 19. I wrote as a freelancer (FREELANCER), Lesha is an individual entrepreneur (INDIVIDUAL ENTREPRENEUR).

Clause 20. For freelancers, unemployed and pensioners - a dash, for individual entrepreneurs - first name and patronymic, telephone number, registration address. For employees - data from your organization.

Point 24. Don't be shy and ask for multiple entries.

Point 25. We indicated exactly the number of days for which the trip is planned.

Points 29 and 30. Your arrival and departure dates.

Clause 31. The name of your hotel / the name of the person with whom you will be staying / the address of your stay. We provided a numbered list of hotels. Just below are spaces for your address and phone number, also in a numbered list for convenience. The hotels were not emailed.

Item 32. Tourists do not need to fill out this form, this is only for a business visit.

Point 33. Write YES as in the example and check the appropriate boxes. If you pay the expenses yourself, you need the left column. Choose your means: we indicate cash, credit card, prepaid transport.

Even if you have a debit card, mark it as a credit card. If the hotel is paid for, and not just a canceled reservation, then choose a prepaid place to stay.

Traveling to Spain on your own >>

Accommodation confirmation

For Spain, a hotel reservation from Booking.com is suitable - we made it freely cancelable. A document from Airbnb will also work. After some time after receiving your visa, do not forget to cancel your reservation, otherwise a fine will be charged. Please be aware that some hotels will charge the booking amount.

Rumors and rumors. They say that the consulate sometimes calls hotels and checks the accuracy of the reservation, so it is important to correctly indicate the hotel numbers. There is also an opinion that the more expensive the booked hotel, the higher the likelihood of getting a long-term multi-Schengen visa. I don’t know if this is actually true. We booked 2* or 3* hotels with different prices - both for 40 euros per day and for 100.

Important: your reservation must contain the names of everyone who is applying for a visa with you in English You must have accommodation for all days of your stay!

Insurance

Apply for insurance online on the websites Sravni.ru or Cherehapa - they compare prices from all major insurance companies. You can choose a policy according to the parameters you need and the best price. The cost of the policy is from 300 rubles per week.

It must be valid in all Schengen countries and cover the entire period of stay. Insurance coverage - at least 30 thousand euros. We provided insurance from Tinkoff Bank, which is free for a year with an All Airlines card.

Our review of the card >>

Air ticket reservation

We had paid tickets. We do not recommend cheating and drawing tickets in Photoshop - they may check you and deny you a visa. They took from me not only the itinerary receipt, but also the receipt for payment for tickets, which Pegasus sends by email.

Economic guarantees

This is confirmation that you will return to Russia. For a visa to Spain, a certificate from your place of work is suitable (preferably on an official letterhead indicating salary and length of service, stamp and signature) or a certificate in form 2NDFL. Everything must be current - 1 month from the date of issue .

For entrepreneurs - copies of OGRN, TIN and declaration.

Freelancers, of course, skip this point, but they can make up for it in the next point.

Financial guarantees

To choose from: a bank account statement on bank letterhead, traveler's checks, a certificate of purchase of currency, a credit card with a check showing the account balance. You need to have 73.59 euros per day per person. Everything must be current - 1 month from the date of issue.

We provided:

  • an account statement at Sberbank (costs 100 rubles on a bank letterhead with a stamp and signature - as it turned out, it can be free) - it is done instantly;
  • a copy of the front side of the card (credit/debit, whatever);
  • a regular receipt from an ATM about the balance on the card;
  • a certificate in English and Russian from Tinkoff Bank for the same card - we have two All Airlines and one Black.

For sponsors: sponsorship letter and financial guarantees.

Passports

You need to photocopy all pages of all valid passports, even blank ones . Printing on A4 sheets sequentially (!!!) on both sides. Canceled passports are at your discretion. If you decide to hand it in, then all its pages also need to be photocopied. We rented out both the new and the old.

Don’t forget about your internal passport - all the sheets with marks are needed there.

The passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the last expected date of departure from the Schengen zone. It must have at least 2 blank pages.

Biometrics

The visa center advises you to submit your biometric data again, even if you have done so recently. Agree, it's free and will increase your chances of getting a visa.

Filling out the form

You must fill out the form by hand in block letters or on a computer. The filling language is Spanish or English. Application form from the BLS website: VAF_ESP_RUS.pdf.

Of course, for an additional fee, they will help you fill out the form at the VC, but we advise you to do it yourself, especially since it is very simple. We recommend that you download the official form and fill it out on your computer at home without haste.

To apply for a multiple visa, do not forget to indicate this by selecting the “multiple entry” option, as well as the entry date and exit date using the formula: the requested number of years minus one day. Write the length of stay: 90, 60 or 45 days at your request, regardless of tickets.

A Spanish visa is opened with the date entered in the “Date of Entry” column, which in most cases corresponds to the date on the tickets.

If you want to get a multi-visa for a long period, you can also write a cover letter expressing this desire and describing your future travel plans.

After filling out the form, print it out: there should be 4 pages in total; you can print it on both sides on two sheets, or each page on a separate sheet (4 sheets).

An approximate sample of filling can be viewed on the official website: VAF Sample.pdf.

In general, as you can see, there is nothing difficult in filling out the questionnaire if you are careful, so there is no point in turning to intermediaries for help in this matter.

Why should you pay attention to the form?

You are going to Europe, where official documents are given great importance. Your employment certificate will be ideal if it is printed on the respectable letterhead of your company. This will demonstrate that you work for a reputable organization that knows how to do business and commands respect.

This is what a work certificate form might look like:

If it is not possible to place information on a company sheet, a simple sheet will do, but it will have to contain all the details of the company, as required by generally accepted rules. It is advisable that the document contains not one, but several telephone numbers, for example, the personnel department and the secretariat. Specialists in departments issuing visas should see a well-designed form, from which they can conclude that they are not being misled.

A sample certificate of employment in Russian can be downloaded here, in English here.

Receipt times and cost

The Consulate General of Spain in Moscow reviews the documents and makes a decision within 5 working days from the date of submission of documents at the visa center. Please note that this period does not include the deadlines for sending documents from the regions to the capital and back.

The cost of a visa consists of several fees and charges. These are mandatory fees: consular (or visa) fee - for the fact that your application will be reviewed by the Consulate General to make a decision; service fee - for participation in this process of the visa center, which is responsible for receiving and sending documents, and carries out the biometrics procedure. Other payments are optional - at your discretion.

Consular fee

The consular (visa) fee in 2021 remains the same for Russians, citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan and amounts to 35 euros .

For citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and all other countries, the consular fee will be 80 euros .

For children under 6 years of age, fees (consular and service) are not charged.

Service fee

In addition to the consular fee, when submitting documents through the visa center, you will also need to pay a service fee of 15 euros. The cost at the current euro exchange rate is best viewed on the BLS Short-term visa page in the Visa Tariffs tab.

This amount already includes the cost of delivering documents to the Consulate General and back to the CC.

The official website states that from April 15, 2021, all fees must be paid at the Spain Visa Application Center in cash only. In fact, in visa centers in Moscow and Novosibirsk, for example, there are terminals for non-cash payments, but employees are playing it safe because there are often problems with communication. In other cities, most often there is no cashless payment option or it is only available when submitting through the VIP lounge. Therefore, we advise you to have cash just in case.

If the situation changes and the information on the visa center website is not updated, please write to us.

Consulate General of Spain in Moscow

In Moscow, the Spanish Consulate General is located on Stremyanny Lane. Before visiting this organization, you should familiarize yourself with the work schedule and find out by phone what documents are required.

Address: 115054 Moscow, Stremyanny Lane, 31/1 Tel./ 22-98 Fax

You can find out where the Spanish visa centers in Russia are located, as well as their contact numbers, by following this link.

The main attractions of Madrid will open up for you from a new perspective in the next article.

Biometrics and fingerprinting

Since September 2015, the procedure for submitting biometric data has been mandatory: fingerprinting and photographing. Children under 12 years of age are exempt from this procedure.

If you have not passed it within the last 5 years, then you need to do this when applying for a visa to Spain. This service is already included in the service fee, so you do not have to pay for it separately. It will just take a little more time, since there may be a short queue for biometrics.

Even if you have taken biometrics for a visa of another country over the past 5 years, the Spanish Consulate strongly recommends taking it again so that you do not have to request additionally, thereby extending the period of receipt. Since submitting biometrics is free, you do not lose anything by doing it again, but you can be sure that the consulate will not ask for it.

But after passing biometrics, you will not need to remember about it for the next 5 years. Try to write down the date you took the biometrics - this will be useful for answering the question in the application form the next time you submit documents.

Process of submitting documents and obtaining a visa

The application process at the visa center can be confidently called convenient: since the submission of documents takes place by appointment and each applicant has his own time assigned, there are almost never queues.

From February 2, 2021, documents can be submitted 6 months before entering the country . The deadline for submission is at least 15 days before travel.

Unlike visa centers in other countries, you must register in advance . It’s not possible to come just like that, at any convenient time.

Procedure for making an appointment

  1. To make an appointment, go to the BLS home page at blsspain-russia.com and select your consular district.
  2. First, the applicant who will come to submit documents is registered. You must choose whether you are submitting documents individually (for yourself) or for a group/family. The maximum number of people for a one-time application is 8 people.
  3. Next, select a visa center according to your place of residence and registration.
  4. Enter the telephone number of the applicant who will submit documents and his email.
  5. Click “Request Verification Code” and enter the code received by email.
  6. Next, you will have the opportunity to select an appointment date in a special calendar. Free days are highlighted in green windows; select the date of your visit and time period.
  7. Next, in the form that appears, you will need to indicate the details of all applicants. Be careful when filling out the data and check the documents.
  8. After filling out all the data, write down the confirmation number and be sure to print it, this is your pass to the office.

Registration for each applicant is made separately, including for children. If there is a need to submit documents only for a child, you must make an appointment for both yourself and the child.

If for some reason you are unable to come to submit documents on the appointed day, you can re-register for another day only by canceling the existing appointment and creating a new one 24 hours later. This can be done on the Cancellation of Admission page; do not forget that here you will need to cancel the entry of each applicant by entering their data separately.

Reception for submitting documents to the CC

Along with a printed confirmation letter and a set of all documents, come to the VC 15 minutes before the appointed time.

At the entrance, your personal belongings will be checked for prohibited items and in some cities you will be forced to go through a metal detector. Mobile phones and laptops, as well as other equipment, must be turned off.

You will be given an electronic queue ticket or will be called on time depending on the visa center and workload.

Only applicants and accompanying children under 18 years of age, as well as those who need assistance for health reasons, are allowed to enter the visa center. You won’t be able to just come and “help morally” your friends or family. Children under 12 years of age do not need to be present when submitting documents if they have already undergone the fingerprinting procedure. Minors 14–18 years old must attend in person.

A visa specialist will check your documents, prepare a service agreement and draw up a list of accepted documents. If everything is filled out correctly and there are no questions, you will be directed to the checkout. After payment, you will be sent for fingerprinting and digital photography if necessary. If necessary, you can arrange delivery to your office or home.

Be sure to save all documents issued by the CC: payment receipt, agreement, list of accepted documents. Now it's done, all you have to do is wait.

Receiving ready documents

You can monitor the fate of the submitted documents on the website on the Passport Tracking page. As soon as the application status indicates that the documents have been returned to the visa center, they can be collected; no appointment is required for this.

The applicant himself can come for the prepared documents - with an identification document and a receipt for payment for services. Close relatives can also receive a package of documents if they have documents confirming the relationship (for example, a marriage certificate) and a receipt for payment.

If a third party will receive the documents, then you should have more documents with you: an identity card, copies of pages with personal data of the identity document, a notarized power of attorney and a payment receipt. The power of attorney must indicate the name, surname and passport number of the authorized person, as well as the details of the passport holder.

Important! When you are given a passport with the desired visa and you experience relief and joy, do not run away from the visa center in joy. Give your passport a few more minutes to make sure the information is correct: carefully check your first and last name on the visa, passport number, visa validity period, length of stay (whether your trip falls within the specified period), presence of a consulate stamp with a signature.

If suddenly for some reason you receive a refusal, the package of documents should contain a notice with the reason for the negative decision.

If any data is incorrect or completely missing, contact the window where you were given the package of documents.

Conclusion

That's all! You can be proud of yourself, because you have not only figured out how to get a visa to Spain on your own, but you will also be able, if necessary, to help your loved ones or friends who decide to visit this country with this issue. Or you can simply share this material with them so that all the useful links are at their fingertips!

The most important thing is done, the decisive answer from the consulate has been received, and now you can worry about the pleasant chores of planning your trip to Spain. Let it be exciting and create an irresistible thirst for new travels!
