The world in detail: who is more numerous - men or women?

Demography

The demographic situation in Russia has recently improved significantly. The recent population explosion has improved birth statistics. The state policy to support young parents is yielding results. The contribution was made by residents of Crimea who became Russians, increasing the migration flow.

According to statistics, in 2021 the population of Russia is 146,580,176 people, 1.88% of the Earth's population. It ranks ninth, this is the best figure in the last 20 years.

The problem is not just fertility. The mortality rate is increasing every year; a solution is needed at the state level.

Russia

Gender statistics in Russia indicate serious problems. There has been a shortage of men in the country for several centuries. Russian population statistics by gender (1926–2016) notes the difference in percentage between the number of men and women:

  • 1926 – 6%;
  • 1945 (closer to 1959) – 10%;
  • 1990 – 6%;
  • 2008 – 8%;
  • 2016 – 9%.

Director of the Institute of Demography "Higher School of Economics" A. Vishnevsky emphasizes that the unevenness of sex ratio statistics is caused by the high mortality rate among men. Main reasons:

  1. Road accident.
  2. Murders.
  3. Suicides.
  4. Alcohol poisoning.
  5. Drownings.

The table shows statistics by gender and age at the beginning of 2017:

Statistics of female and male working age as of January 1, 2018:

  • there are 1.15 times more women than men;
  • there are more men under the age of 35;
  • at the age of 35 the situation approximately levels out;
  • from 35–59 years of age there are 1.03–1.25 times more women;
  • at the age of 65–69 years there are 1.59 times more women;
  • at the age of over 80 years, the number of women predominates 2.41 times.

Population

Statistics of different ages show that much more boys are born than girls. Over time, the situation changes. By the age of thirty, the number of representatives of the stronger sex becomes 6-8% less than the representatives of the weaker sex.

The mortality rate of the stronger sex is higher. Russia's problem with the lack of male power lies not in low birth rates, but in high mortality. A similar situation in Russia can be seen by analyzing gender ratios.

Men

Short life expectancy. Only thirty years. The figure is the lowest in the world. The Russian guy has the shortest life span.

Women

The loneliest people in Russia are women who have reached the age of seventy. According to statistics, their number is almost three times higher than the number of guys. Life expectancy on average reaches fifty years.

What is important to know

According to Rosstat, in 2021, 67,897,000 men and 78,648,000 women lived in Russia.

That is, there are almost 11 million fewer men than women in Russia today, and this is not because fewer boys are born. On the contrary, there are more boys in our country than girls. But somewhere closer to middle age, the number of men in Russia becomes equal to the number of women, and closer to retirement age there are much fewer of them.

The difference is especially felt starting from the age of 30. It is in this age category that the ratio of men to women varies by 2.25%.

At the same time, if you look in detail at the statistics of age groups, you will initially notice that there are an order of magnitude fewer girls than boys.

If we analyze information regarding mortality, the conclusion suggests itself that the peak value for men occurs at the age of 25, and for women it is at the level of 50 years of age.

It follows from the above that men in Russia are losing their numbers, which is directly related to high mortality rates, and not due to the low birth rate in the country.

Ratio by age

To measure the indicator, an age-sex pyramid is created. Shows gender imbalance in the Russian Federation. In Russia, the situation is such that there are more people of retirement age every year. Mostly these are elderly single ladies. In second place are ages 30-34.

More boys are being born. Then the indicator is equalized. By thirty-five the number of girls exceeds. The maximum rate is reached by the age of seventy, an increase of almost three times.

In the maternity hospital, there are 950 girls for every 1,000 male babies. The peak mortality rate for men occurs at 30-34, while for women only at 50. By thirty in Russia there are already 1020 girls per 1000 boys.

Analysis of age categories

To accurately answer the question of how many women there are in Russia, you need to analyze the sex ratio of different ages. In the Russian Federation, there is a tendency for more boys to be born. Men outnumber women from childhood until age 34. In recent years, the number of young boys and girls has leveled off. But at an older age there are more women.

You can track “spikes” in changes in the sex ratio using the following list:

  • 0-4 years – 0.945;
  • 30-34 years – 1;
  • 65-69 – 1,595.

In the age category after 80 years, the difference between the sexes is even more pronounced. The number of women significantly exceeds men. The ratio is 3.041.

According to the data provided, we can conclude that there are more male citizens in childhood, adolescence and youth. In the mature period, the ratios level out somewhat. There are many more women in old age.

In almost all cities and rural areas the number of women is greater

Ratio by gender

The sex composition of the population is determined as a percentage. The problem of the predominance of the fair sex in Russia has been stable for centuries. It is clear that wars take the lives of the male population, but even in peacetime the difference is noticeable.

The modern age-sex pyramid has evolved over centuries and is the result of various economic and political upheavals. Social upheaval is increasing gender imbalances. The impact is exerted by a shift in the age composition of the population.

In 1959, men made up 45% of the population, women 55%. In 2010, Russian statistics showed a deterioration in the sex ratio. The mortality rate of the working-age male population has increased. In 2021 the ratio is 46% / 54%.

How many children, men and women are there in Russia?

There have always been more women in Russia. This is due to a greater extent to the participation of males in hostilities and shorter life expectancy. Population censuses began in the 19th century, but they were poorly organized. The accuracy of the results is questionable. There are no census data from the early and mid-20th century. This is due to two world wars and the Holodomor on the territory of the USSR.

Since 1917, the number of men in the USSR has been decreasing. The reasons for this are said to be famine and Stalinist repressions. There is evidence that in 1926 the number of women was 6% more than men. After the Great Patriotic War, the difference between the sexes increased significantly. The 1959 census provided information that there were 10% fewer men than women. However, over time, the sex ratio leveled off.

More correct data is obtained from 1951 to 1994: the population of the Russian Federation grew slowly but surely. From 1995 to 2009, there was a gradual decrease in the number of people living in the state. Since 2010, there has been an increase in the number of Russian citizens.

In recent years, the state has faced a large number of problems related to demography. They are associated with the following indicators:

  • population size;
  • fertility;
  • mortality.

Despite the fact that a population explosion has recently been observed, the Russian economist V.Yu. Katasonov says that the demographic situation in Russia is catastrophic. During the existence of the independent state, mortality exceeded birth rate.

The natural increase, according to the scientist, is associated with active immigration of citizens of neighboring countries.

To correct the demographic situation, programs were developed in 2012 to increase demographics and life expectancy to 74 years. In 2021, the results were assessed and turned out to be disappointing. The birth rate has fallen: in 2012 it was 1.691, and in 2021 the figure fell to 1.621.

One of the important indicators of demography is the birth rate. To answer the question of how many boys and girls there are in Russia, you need to get acquainted with statistics. The latest data for this indicator is available for January 1, 2021.

According to documents, for 1,880 thousand children under 1 year of age, there are:

  • 966 thousand boys;
  • 914 thousand girls.

More boys are being born in the country. Fertility rates vary slightly.

Men outnumber women from childhood until age 34. In recent years, the number of young boys and girls has leveled off. But at an older age there are more women.

It is believed that if sexual intercourse occurs less than a day before ovulation (preferably 10 hours before it), then most likely a boy will be born. If intercourse occurred much earlier or a few days after ovulation, then the likelihood of a girl is greater. This is because the Y chromosomes can only reach the egg for a short period of time before ovulation. Otherwise, they die and only the X chromosomes remain.

Ovulation usually occurs in the middle of the cycle, but, depending on a number of circumstances, this does not always happen. It is impossible to feel the moment of ovulation, since it is asymptomatic. And yet you can calculate this moment quite accurately using three methods:

There are also statistics on the birth rate of children with disabilities. Quite a lot of them are born on the territory of Russia. More than 50% of babies are born with mental illness. This is due to heredity, with a lot of stress in parents. Plus, there are few good doctors who can provide qualified assistance in a timely manner. Every year approximately 2 thousand children are born with Down syndrome. About 30% of newborns have genetic disorders. No more than 20% of healthy babies are born in Russia every year.

This technique is very common, and most importantly free. Its essence lies in the fact that the blood of both males and females is renewed with a certain periodicity. For women, the typical frequency of blood renewal is once every four years, and for men, blood is renewed more often - once every three years. But it must be remembered that sometimes this process may not occur on the date planned by the body, for example, when serious volumes of blood are lost (for example, donating blood, transfusion, surgery, etc.). Therefore, when calculating, it is necessary to take into account such nuances.

Having remembered all the serious blood losses, you need to determine the year in which the future mother and father had blood renewal. For the one who had this process earlier, that gender will dominate in the formation of the baby’s gender characteristics. So, for example, if the mother’s blood was renewed later, then most likely a girl will be born, and if the father’s, then a boy.

Bad habits. The use of drugs, alcohol and smoking is not a direct cause of death (except perhaps in cases where a person drinks himself to death or dies from a drug overdose). But all these substances harm the body, leading to diseases, or leading to fatal crimes (road accidents, murders while intoxicated, murders by drug addicts for the sake of a dose).

We are accustomed to considering population growth in the Russian Federation one of the goals of domestic policy, because we are told so on TV. But let’s imagine that the birth rate has increased sharply. This will lead to the development of Siberia and the Far East, deforestation and pollution of lakes. Everyone knows that the Siberian taiga is the lungs of the planet. Russia remains one of the few reserve territories on the planet where resources for humanity are still abundant. We shouldn't forget about this.

Statistics by region

According to statistics, in each region the proportion of men and women is different. But there is a tendency that the more favorable the climate, the greater the percentage of the fair sex. Conversely, the harsher the conditions, the more likely it is that men will lead.

Some data by region:

  • Moscow city - 5829.4 thousand M (46.2%), and 6785.9 thousand F (53.8%). At 1000 M, 1164 J.
  • Ivanovo region - 453.6 thousand M (45.2%), and 550.6 thousand F (54.8%). At 1000 M, 1214 F. For many years it has been a leader in gender difference.
  • Kaliningrad region - 470.9 thousand M (47.0%), and 531.3 thousand F (53.0%). At 1000 M, 1128 J.
  • Chukotka Autonomous Okrug - 25.2 thousand M (50.8%), and 24.5 thousand F (49.2%). At 1000 M, 970 F.
  • City of St. Petersburg – 2437.9 thousand M (45.3%), and 2946.0 thousand F (54.7%). At 1000 M, 1208 J.

Percentage of male population:

  • Primorsky Krai (47.8%).
  • Krasnodar region (46.3%).
  • Krasnoyarsk Territory (46.7%).
  • Republic of Dagestan (48.3%).

Data provided by the Federal State Statistics Service. The conclusion is that the situation is almost the same across regions. The only region where the number of representatives of the stronger sex prevails is the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. In all other places the figure is significantly lower.

Rural and urban residents are unevenly distributed by gender. It is statistically confirmed that there are more men in the villages, while women predominate in the cities.

Female to male ratio 2021 in the former Soviet Union

The ratio of men to women in the world differs from that in the countries of the former Soviet Union. Here, as in the Russian Federation, there are much fewer men than women. Despite the fact that in the territory of the former USSR the demographic situation has improved over the past 5-10 years, more boys have begun to be born, this has not affected the general situation.

A kind of “stagnation” in demography is due to the fact that, along with an increase in the birth rate, the mortality rate of young men also increased by 1.5 times. According to the latest data, there are about 1,500 girls per 1,000 representatives of the stronger sex.
