Hungary joins Schengen

    around the world

Hungary attracts Russian tourists not only with its historical and natural attractions, but also with inexpensive flights, so the flow of travelers from our country is increasing every year. Since it is included in the list of Schengen countries, Russians need a Schengen visa to visit. You can submit documents to obtain permission only for the duration of the trip, but it is better to apply for a multiple visa, which can then be used to easily travel to other countries. In addition, if a person already has a Schengen visa issued by another country, they will also be allowed into Hungary.

A Hungarian visa is considered quite easy to obtain; embassies are usually loyal to Russians.

Types of visas

Travelers most often apply for a tourist visa type C. It is short-term and can be single, double or multiple. In addition to sightseeing, people travel along it for other purposes:

  • treatment;
  • business tasks;
  • visiting relatives;
  • transit;
  • participation in sports, cultural or scientific events;
  • living in your own property.

In addition, family members of European Union citizens must apply for a visa.

Registration yourself

You can submit documents to an embassy, consulate or visa center. In the latter, employees will help you prepare the papers correctly, take photographs and photocopies, and besides, there are usually no queues; it is convenient for residents of the regions to transfer the order by courier. But you will have to pay a service fee: 20 EUR for Moscow and 30 EUR for other regions. Prices on the page are for April 2021.

If you contact the consulate directly, you first need to make an appointment at the office. website, then fill out a form there and only then come with a full package of documents for an interview (in fact, no interview is conducted, that’s just what the paper submission procedure is called).

You need to register no earlier than 3 months before your intended visit to the country, but no later than a month. The official review period is 7-10 days; in rare cases, the procedure can take up to 30 days.

Submission of biometrics

Even if you need to get a visa to Hungary in Moscow in absentia, but you have never taken fingerprinting before or been photographed with a special type of camera, you definitely need to do this.

The procedure does not take much time, but it is strictly mandatory for those who are over 12 years old and in the absence of limiting circumstances (disability).

Your data will be stored in the common system for 5 years, after which it must be updated if you are planning to obtain a visa to Hungary or any other Schengen country.

The length of the head from the chin to the crown is approximately 30 mm (70-80% of the area). The photo is taken from the front, the gaze is directed at the camera, there is no smile.

Main types of visas

There are several types of visas for residents of the Russian Federation. One or another type of visa is issued based on the length of stay within the country and the purposes that the person visiting has:

  • Transit visa-free – provided for travelers who transfer between flights within a period of no more than 24 hours. This is followed by a flight to a country outside the Schengen zone;
  • Transit – issued during transit through the territory of the country. We are talking about visiting the international Hungarian airport with subsequent departure to third countries;
  • C - this Schengen visa to Hungary allows you to stay within the country for no more than 90 days. The purpose of the visit can be very different. A visa may imply the possibility of one, two or multiple visits to Hungary during the period of time specified on it. It can be not only several days (according to the conditions of the trip), but also several years. But you can stay in Hungary or another Schengen country at the same time, up to 90 days within six months;
  • D - national visa format, which provides the opportunity to stay in the country for 90 days or more. The longest period of stay is 12 months with the possibility of subsequent extension. With such a visa you can travel to other Schengen countries, but not more than 90 days. Obtaining such a visa is possible only at the Hungarian Embassy.

Even those for whom Hungary is only a means to get to their final destination, and not the purpose of the trip, will have to apply for a visa.

If the traveler already has a valid Schengen multiple visa issued in another country, it can be used to enter Hungary.

Ukrainians who want to travel to Hungary in 2021 for tourism purposes for 90 days do not need a visa. They have a visa-free regime with all EU countries.
