Such centers can be found in every city; the migration service inspector has a list of them.

What does the exam consist of?

To receive a certificate, a migrant must correctly answer 3 sets of questions. All of them are formulated in the form of tests, where you need to choose the desired answer option. During the test, you must confirm your knowledge in the following subjects:

The greatest difficulty for test takers is the part of the exam related to knowledge of the basics of the Russian language. The level of difficulty of the tasks presented in this part varies. The most difficult questions are for the category of persons who require a certificate in the Russian language for Russian citizenship. In addition to the specified documents, you must take with you a ballpoint pen with blue or black ink to fill out the control sheets. The following things are prohibited during the exam:

If these rules are violated, the exam results may be cancelled.

Possibility of retaking

To obtain a certificate for Russian citizenship, you must answer at least 66% of the questions correctly.
In this case, the passage of each subtest is assessed separately. If you fail only one subtest, you can retake only that one by paying 50% of the fee. Re-taking is possible only within 2 years after failure. If the test taker was unable to correctly answer questions on 2 or more subtests, he will have to prepare for a repeat exam. In this case, you must pay the fee again. Therefore, you should prepare thoroughly for the exam. You can do this either independently or by signing up for paid classes.

Certificate of Russian language proficiency

Starting from this year, any foreign citizen who submits a package of documents to the territorial body of the Federal Migration Service for a temporary residence permit, residence permit or citizenship of the Russian Federation is required to provide a certificate of knowledge of the Russian language. The law under which this provision is mandatory has been developed since the beginning of 2014. However, it came into full force in January 2015.

The examination for migrants is carried out in three main disciplines: Russian language, fundamentals of legislation and history of the Russian Federation. In this case, the entire procedure is divided into five parts, which include:

  • presentation (40 minutes);
  • reading the text (40 minutes);
  • grammar tasks (40 minutes);
  • listening to the recording (30 minutes);
  • oral speech with an examiner (30 minutes).

A consultation is required before the exam. At this time, a representative of a certified organization explains to migrants the entire testing procedure and the principle of assessment. The exam is considered passed only if the examinee scores at least 60% correct answers in each discipline.

Before you go for testing, you should prepare all the necessary documents. Foreign citizens should provide the original and a copy of their passport with a notarized translation. If the document already has a stamp on the issuance of a temporary residence permit or temporary residence permit, then you should make a copy of this page. In addition, you need to provide a migration card and a receipt for payment of the fee to the bank.

You should register for the exam in advance, as groups are formed within 1-2 months. This can be done either online or in person by submitting an application to the testing center. As a rule, citizens are notified of the date of the comprehensive exam 5-7 days in advance. This allows you to prepare for upcoming issues and plan your schedule. Remember that in case of failure to appear for the exam, funds contributed to the state treasury will not be returned.

The document issued based on the testing results is valid in Russia for five years. At the same time, a foreign citizen needs to remember that with each subsequent change in status, it is necessary to renew the certificate by going through the examination procedure again. In other words, if after the expiration of the temporary residence permit it is planned to issue a residence permit, you need to submit an updated document.
