Do Russians need a visa to Malta in 2021?

Malta, like almost all of Europe, remains for Russian tourists a country that requires a visa to enter, regardless of whether you want to see the sights of Malta or visit old friends.

A Malta visa for Russians in 2021 is a standard short-term Schengen visa, which can be issued at visa centers of this tiny country located in several cities of Russia: Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Khabarovsk , Vladivostok, Ufa, Sochi, Samara, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnodar, Kaliningrad, as well as at the embassy in Moscow. If you have a valid Schengen visa, of course, you do not need to apply for a new visa.

Documents for a visa to Malta

The set of documents for a short-term Schengen visa to Malta is very standard, so those who have already applied for a Schengen visa will most likely not find anything new for themselves. The standard processing time for a Schengen visa to Malta is 4–5 days.

Separately, it should be noted that an open Schengen visa in a canceled passport is considered invalid and it cannot be transferred to a new passport, so you will need to go through the procedure for obtaining a Schengen visa again.

Depending on the purpose of the trip (business, study, work, etc.), this list can be supplemented with various documents.

Where and how to register

An appointment will most likely be required exclusively for the capital/St. Petersburg visa center and embassy. These points receive more people and are considered the most visited, so you can’t do without a “recording” system.

But if you are going to submit documents at visa centers located outside of St. Petersburg or Moscow, then you do not need an appointment - the classic first-come, first-serve rule applies (check individually).

In St. Petersburg you will find the honorary consulate on the street. Krasnoarmeyskaya (007-812-449-47-80), visa center - on B. Raznochinnaya (+7-499-350-79-05). Call the numbers provided at the desired reception point and sign up for a free date.

There are also visa centers in the following major cities:

  • Vladivostok;
  • Ekaterinburg;
  • Kazan;
  • Samara;
  • Saratov;
  • Ufa;
  • Khabarovsk, etc.

IMPORTANT! In the most “crowded” places for receiving documents, you will have to wait in line for a week or two or more - as we said initially, there are many applicants. Therefore, take into account the nuance of waiting for the submission of papers when planning a trip, and not just the deadline for processing visa documentation.

What documents are needed to apply for a visa to Malta?

It's easy to find out. I hope I have convinced you that it is better to do this on the Visa Application Center website. We enter the query “Malta visa center in Moscow official website” in the search engine and select vfsglobal in the search results. This website is the website of the Visa Application Center.

When you click, a link will open. If you receive a tourist visa, go to “Visa Categories” - “Tourism” - “Required Documents” tab. If only adults are traveling, nothing else is needed:

In the very first line there are words about the visa application form. It is different for different countries. You can't make a mistake. Again, we take the form exclusively from this site, we don’t go anywhere else. The form is hidden in the “Download Forms” tab.

The visa center is a commercial organization, the sale of additional services (filling out an application form, printing photos, copying, courier delivery) is their bread and butter. How to get a visa to Malta yourself - read below.

Mandatory documents

If we weed out the garbage lines that provoke unnecessary expenses, the net remainder is the following list:

  1. A questionnaire downloaded from the website and filled out in capital Latin letters. Two double-sided sheets. 1 copy. Having some simple knowledge, I was able to check the right boxes (gender, who pays expenses, etc.). If you do not know how to do this, mark it with a blue pen on the printed form. To better understand how to fill out the items, download at the same time the “Sample of filling out the questionnaire” and refer to it.
  2. A valid passport, which expires no earlier than 3 months after the expiration of the visa, with at least two blank pages.
  3. A copy of a valid international passport. It seems that they only require copies of completed pages, and it seems that this is generally “subject to availability.” We printed copies of all pages. It seemed easier that way. They didn't tell us anything. 1 copy.
  4. Photo 3.5 * 4.5 on a white background, different from all those that are on passport visas. 2 pieces. They force you to redo it. 200 rub. for 6 pieces in the photo booth. They cut it off and take one. Why they write two is unclear.
  5. A bank account statement, or a certificate of the presence of a credit limit on a credit card, or a certificate of currency purchase. We had statements about the movement of funds on the account and on the credit card. 1 copy.
  6. A copy of two pages of the Russian passport (the first and with registration). 1 copy.
  7. Printout of hotel reservations for the entire duration of your trip through Schengen. Hotels, I’ll clarify. We had to rebook the apartments, because if you are going to live in them, please provide a rental agreement and proof of payment. 1 copy per traveler is required. Or they make copies. 10 rub. per sheet. If there are several hotels, you need to print out all the reservations.
  8. Flights. Also 1 copy for each traveler. We had itinerary receipts. We buy non-refundable economy. If the route is complex, you need tickets for each part of the route.
  9. Travel medical insurance with coverage starting from 30 thousand euros. 1 copy, if issued online. Original + copy if offline (the original will be given away). You can purchase insurance on our website. We use it ourselves and recommend it to you. There are no questions.

Additionally, I provided a marriage certificate and a certificate of ownership of the apartment. They took the copies after checking them with the originals.

And they took this whole bunch! Compare - to obtain an English visa, a package of our documents was scanned and returned, only the passport and application form were taken away.

No need to present:

  • Past passports (if they expired more than three years ago, I think).
  • A certificate from your place of employment (if you want to provide it, they will take it, but it must be recent, for the last month).
  • Sponsorship letter if you have a credit card with a significant balance of funds. If you do provide a sponsorship letter, they require a copy of the sponsor’s recent employment certificate and copies of his documents (certificates, statements) from the bank.

How to get a Malta visa for a child

Minors (under 18 years of age) traveling to Malta must provide:

  • birth certificate
  • notarized permission to leave from both parents/guardians or one of the parents/guardians who is not accompanying the minor child
  • If children are traveling with their parents and do not have their own passport, but are included in the mother/father’s passport, photographs of each child and mother/father must be provided, which must be glued to the mother/father’s application form in any free space, depending on the who are they traveling to?
  • Copies of the first pages of both parents or guardian
  • For a guardian - a document confirming his status officially
