Apply for citizenship

Documents required for consular check

It is necessary to collect only those documents that confirm Jewishness. It is recommended to arrange the documents in alphabetical order - this is very convenient when filling out the application form. All certificates must be submitted in original.

Personal documents

In 2021, the following documents are required:

  • Birth certificate (original). If you don’t have the original on hand, you should contact the registry office and request a second birth certificate. It is necessary to warn employees that it must indicate the nationality of the parents.
  • Death certificate of deceased relatives. This document must also indicate their nationality.
  • Old passports (USSR type).
  • Marriage certificate of Jewish grandparents.
  • Certificate of marriage (yours and your parents’).

All documents issued after 1997 must have an apostille.

Documents to confirm Jewish roots

It is required to submit documents confirming the fact of relationship with people of Jewish origin (up to the 4th generation).

  • For 1st generation Jews. Parents' documents indicating their nationality are required: passports, birth certificates.
  • For Jews of the 2nd generation. They present the birth certificate of their grandparents (the nationality must be indicated there).
  • For Jews of the 3rd generation. A birth certificate of the grandparent's mother indicating nationality is provided.

Additional documents

List of additional documents:

  • About education (certificate, diploma, certificate).
  • On conducting labor activities (work book, contract).
  • Certificate of good conduct (this document must be ordered in person). The Ministry of Internal Affairs does not issue an apostille on a certificate that was received through the government service website.

If one of the family members has health problems, then certified certificates should be attached.

Indirect confirmations:

  • extract from the house register;
  • military ID.

Additionally, it is allowed to attach letters, excerpts from diaries, photographs that, one way or another, confirm Jewish origin.

Documents for moving husband and wife

A marriage certificate is presented. By the time of submitting the package of documents, the age of official marriage must be at least 13 months. But if both spouses have Jewish ancestors, then this requirement does not apply to them.

Additional documents:

  • divorce certificate (if the marriage is dissolved);
  • death certificate of one of the spouses (widows/widowers).

Papers required for children

The main document is the child’s birth certificate. If the parents are divorced, then the potential repatriate must provide permission to take the child to Israel. If one of the parents is deceased, a death certificate is provided.

Rules and conditions for repatriation to Israel

At the moment, the main condition for repatriation to Israel from Russia and other countries of the world is documented Jewish affiliation. In 2021, the following can count on repatriation to Israel:

  • persons whose nationality column in any official document (for example, a birth certificate) contains “Jewish”;
  • persons whose parents (one parent) can document their belonging to Jewish nationality;
  • persons whose third-generation parents (grandparents) can document their Jewish nationality;
  • persons who are family members of relatives who were listed above (this does not apply to children in the fourth generation who are over 16 years of age);
  • widows and widowers of people whose Jewish nationality can be documented, but on the condition that after the death of their spouse they no longer married non-Jews.

Where and how to look for documents confirming Jewish roots

First you need to check your home archives - look through albums, letters. Then - turn to relatives, both close and distant.

You can also search for documents confirming Jewish origin:

  • in administrative and economic organizations;
  • military registration and enlistment office;
  • in churches, synagogues;
  • Registry office.

You can also contact the Russian State Archives.

If a person is Jewish through a grandfather or grandmother, then a document that confirms their nationality must be applied to the registry office at their place of residence.

You should have a general power of attorney with you.

Your candidacy has been approved

What awaits you after the consulate approves your documents for the right to return to the country of your ancestors:

  • You receive a visa whose validity is limited to 6 months. If for any reason you were unable to meet this deadline, you will have to start the whole procedure all over again.
  • You must decide on a repatriation program (more on it below).
  • Select your place of residence. This is a mandatory condition for Russians who have received the right to repatriate to Israel.

It is important to know: the advisory office provides all possible support to everyone who wishes to return to their historical homeland, and, thanks to high-quality comprehensive preparation,

99% of our clients undergo document verification, an interview at the consulate and receive the coveted right to repatriation the first time.

Our program is time-tested and effective. With its help, many people have already been able to take full advantage of all the benefits that a repatriate receives in the Jewish state.

Pleasant little things that every Israeli repatriate can count on (information for 2021) include:

  • Free flight and extra baggage space,
  • Free transfer from the airport to your accommodation,
  • Financial support for the first few months of your residence in the country,
  • Health insurance and free Hebrew course,
  • Tax benefits for mortgages or rental housing.

Interview

You can undergo consular checks at the Israeli consulate, which is located in Russia, in Moscow.

How to pass an interview successfully

The consular check itself takes 15–20 minutes. One of the main questions is: “What are you going to do in Israel?” You must answer truthfully. If a person does not know what exactly he wants, then the answer should say that he wants to try to live in Israel - he has the right to do so.

There is no need to argue when talking with a consular officer. But at the same time, you should show yourself as a person who is ready to fight to the end: offer to understand the problem, or deliver the necessary documents.

But usually the consul does not ask additional questions. He simply asks to see the documents and looks through them.

How we can help you obtain Israeli citizenship

  • We will help you fill out the repatriate application form

Possible results of consular check

Possible test results:

  • obtaining a visa;
  • refusal;
  • request for additional documents;
  • deferred decision on repatriation.

Obtaining a visa and repatriation rights

The consul usually makes a decision immediately after the check, and after a positive answer to the question about coming to Israel within six months.

Refusal

You may encounter a refusal in the following cases:

  • lack of authentic documents testifying to Jewish roots;
  • criminal history;
  • conversion to another religion (applies only to halachic Jews);
  • marriage after the child is born;
  • marriage to a Jew shortly before submitting documents to the consulate;
  • discrepancy between oral responses and written ones.

If the reason for refusal is the lack of certain documents, then you can contact the consulate again. In other cases, re-application is possible, but the support of a lawyer will be required.

Request additional documents

Additional documents are requested by the consul in cases where he has doubts about a particular fact.

Deferred decision on repatriation and change of status in Israel

This is possible if the consul is confused about something. The reason for this is the absence of some documents.
