From August 4, 2021, sunny Abkhazia is open to Russian tourists, and most importantly, you only need an internal Russian passport to enter.

The emerald warm sea, natural attractions, clean air, authentic markets, the famous fried suluguni, sweet wine and tangerine juice - all this awaits you in hospitable Abkhazia.

You can get to Abkhazia by bus, car, train, ferry or taxi. Crossing the border is only allowed from the Russian side through the Psou checkpoint. Airports in Abkhazia are not functioning. Therefore, if you want to fly as close as possible to Abkhazia, then this can be done by flying to Sochi (Adler), and from there you can get there using the above methods.

Upon arrival

On the border with Abkhazia you will need:

  • Present a valid Russian passport or international passport (but in this case, a border crossing stamp will be affixed to the international passport, which can then create problems when entering other countries, since the sovereignty of Abkhazia is not recognized everywhere). We advise you to present only your Russian passport and keep your foreign passport away;
  • When entering Abkhazia by car, you must provide a passport, driver's license, and registration documents. If you cross the border in someone else's car, you must have a power of attorney to drive the vehicle. Russian car insurance is not valid in Abkhazia, so neither the Russian nor the Abkhaz side requests it when crossing the border. We advise you to drive carefully
